i have had Old Jock, it used to be in small bottles but you can get 500ml bottles now quite a strong scottish ale at 6.7%

Franziskaner weiss beer is my drink of choice at the moment, bottle conditioned and lovely!

The other day my local radio station was suggesting a Liberty Belle cocktail in honor of the 335th anniversary of the founding of Philadelphia. 2 ounces of Bourbon, 1 ounce of Peach Schnapps (I used Peach Brandy), a dash of Apricot Brandy and a dash of Campari. Mix with ice, stir for 25 seconds and strain into a Martini glass. It was actually quite good. The bitterness of the Campari offset the sweetness of the brandy.
What drink would be appropriate in honor of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation?

Ed from NJ

I don't know if it appropriate for the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther stirring things up a bit......but I am having a bit of Buffalo Trace.

Prost Martin, you upset the apple cart!

We are in Cornwall, situated in Mousehole. Drinking many great local Cornish traditional cask ales, and also found a really great vodka made entirely from cow's milk, Black Cow Vodka!

Much to my surprise, one day while standing line the line at the local Ace Hardware, I spotted bottles of soda, one called Red Birch Beer. I snapped up a couple of quarts of it.
Sure enough, it was the same stuff I used to get when I lived in upstate New York in the early 70's. I never saw it outside of the East coast of the US.

Excellent stuff.

Cheers,
Bill

Any of you Ohio guys remember Royal Castle? Many years ago I worked there and we made Birch Beer. Tasted like root beer. Last night I was sipping Bulleit Rye on my deck.

A couple of months ago I wrote that I was drinking tea.

Seems that the shyte that hit me half a year ago has mostly taken away my taste & liking for alkyholic beverages frown
Except that for some reason the occasional half pint of Guiness is enjoyable

Tonight I am still drinking tea

I do hope this affliction is not permanent

I love the Sam Adams seasonal beers! They can be hard to find here sometimes, but when they appear, they vanish pretty quickly!!

Later on today, I will be enjoying some very interesting Scottish Heather Ales, so will be sure to put them up.

Has anyone else on here got the ap called Untappd? It's a fantastic beer ap that allows you to check in what you've had, add friends etc...

I tried the Budweiser "repeal special" amber a week ago. Not too bad, hoppy like a Sam Adams. 6% alcohol.
Too expensive the try again unless I really want to get drunk.

Well, well, where to begin..
Beers: Depending on my surroundings, company, and thirst, I rarely turn anything away. I enjoy the IPA's and various pumpkin-like things for a brief period of the year. Most of these offered by friends and gratefully quaffed by me. My brother offers me a Corsendonk Ale and I've hurt him rushing it out of his hand. However, my usual personal investment in beer is Guinness Extra Stout, sure to please year-round.
Spirits: My dad was a Scotch man through and through, but not a rich man and he died before all this single malt craze made it all a bit silly. So he drank Ballantines, Cutty Sark, and whatever offered, all blends no doubt. I did not develop a taste for it as a young man but do enjoy Scotch now. I've enjoyed many single malts and somehow have become quite a collector without even trying as I get a lot as gifts. Not all that fond of the terribly peaty types, I served my friend a glass of Talisker and he said it tasted like the Sears Tire Store where he once worked smelled. My own investment in Scotch usual stops with Famous Grouse. I still keep a bottle of Ballantines around in honor of dad. I enjoy Irish, Bushmills, Redbreast, and Tullamore DEW especially among them. Thanks to Ed Dunham of this Forum I've become fond of a Maker's Mark Manhattan now and then. Also thanks to Ed there is a bottle of Dad's Hat Rye on hand. "As Comfortable As Dad's Old Hat."
Lastly, befitting the season and with a nod to my long enlistment in the Coast Guard, I have been enjoying Dark and Stormys. Make them with a tumbler of ice, an ounce or two of black rum (Black Seal), a bit of lime juice, top it off with Crabbie's Ginger Beer (the alcoholic type). They go down too easy.

Martin Luther drank beer made at home, as was most beer back then. But he was a binge alcoholic- sadly, he would go months without excess drinking and then..
He said and wrote things when drunk that he was ashamed of, and felt terribly guilty about it.
We all have our struggles.

Avoiding cholera-infected water by drinking session beer saved thousands of lives in previous centuries.
