I'm not sure if this has been posted before.

Here's a link to a short silent film showing some manufacture, assembly and testing of the Rover Imperial about one hundred years ago (a guesstimation on my part). Enjoy!

t e lawrence once wrote an account of doing the ton on a brough at night on a country road. i remember he commented on the front tire barking the mudguard over the whoops.

"Are bikes so nice as all that?" asked the mole, shyly...

"Nice? They're the only thing," said the Water Rat Solemnly, as he leaned forward on the handlebars. "Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing -- absolutely nothing -- half so much worth doing as simply messing about with bikes."

damn

that was it.

as i remember, there's no mention of motorcycles at all in his autobiographic account of the arab war, the seven pillars of wisdom. i'm sure the dispatch people were everywhere, but he mostly kept himself and his interests as much to the side as he could in that piece.

that's a book every bit as dense with content as james joyce's ulysses. i've never made it all the way to the end of either one-i end up overwhelmed before i get there.

No wonder.....There's a story about how TE lost that manuscript on a train, went home and re-wrote the entire thing from memory.

Those kinds of brains come around only rarely....

Cheers,
Bill

I think the mention of motorcycles is in TE Lawrence's book "The Mint ".
