I'll mention it to the owner. I'm the painter and powder coater, mostly....

Cheers,

Bill

I wonder how close this color powder coat is to the original Ariel burgundy? I'm also playing with powdercoating and so far can see a LOT of potential for motorcycle bits. Especially chrome and tinware. A more durable finish and rather easy to apply once you have the gear needed...

That's close enough in my opinion. If you use powder coat, select your color first then have your paint shop match it for the rest of the bike.

I've started painting bits and pieces with the paint I selected. Here's some pics.
It's just the base coat. No clear yet.

It's kind of chameleon.....outside it looks red. In the shadows or at night it looks almost brown.
Looking again, it looks just like the Aggie red powder to me.

Cheers,
Bill

I have transfers coming from Draganfly, but I don't know where some of them go.

One is REG DESIGN which goes somewhere on the the nacelle or FERC whatever that is. (front end reverse coriwinkle?)

The second is the Selly Oak Ariel works that goes somewhere on the rear number plate.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Bill

OK, too late for any input.....

I've nearly completed the paintwork as of today. Only some touchup and finish polishing the tank. I'm pretty happy with the way it came out and can't wait to see it all together. That will have to wait some as the owner is out hunting pirates again and all that motor boat stuff he does.

I could find only a hint of where a couple of the of the transfers actually go so I just gave it a good guess. How would Turner do it, kind of thing.

So, here's what I did.

And the oil tank.

I could find those locations, but from what I saw, they've ended up all over the place on many bikes. I sorta just did what looked best.

In the next couple of days I'll post pics of all the pieces taken in daylight where the color comes out looking much better.

Cheers,
Bill

OK, so I've done the whole deal and had to use my own judgement on a few things, like color and decal placement. Remember this is the first Ariel I've ever painted so I was hoping for some input.
And the end of the day, it's the owner that has to be happy with it. I sent off pics to him out there in the Caribbean somewhere. Perhaps he has some kind of internet access....

Anyway, here's the pics.

Meanwhile, we're trying to sort out what we have here. Seems like we have a mix of parts in the plunger. We have the long bolt of the early style. I'm not sure of what else is there, ie. the bottom nut, and also not sure if we should source the later stuff. Later mean improved, right? A guy can hope....not the case with Triumphs, though I've found.

We would need the center rod with threaded ends, the cap nut and washer on top and the fixing nut on bottom (x2 for everything) The spindle is part of the center rod in the later set up.

Is this all we would need?

Cheers,
Bill

Hey, Cas! Are you the Ant Man on the Big Island? Just ran across your name researching ants today. I have a small invasion of tiny red ants in my home. I doubt that they're fire ants 'cause I'm not getting stung, so what are they? They're almost invisible they're so small. I find them in my water pitcher and in the dog's food.

Cheers,
Bill

Bill,
Nice work & devout love of the old gold hidden right in front of us.
Have you tried the new water borne paint systems out ?

I'm sure if I was still in SoCal I would be using it already, but out here we're a bit behind the curve, ie. I can still buy Imron, believe it or not. Highly toxic and super durable, I probably did about 50 paint jobs with it and many of those are here and still in great shape after over 20 years.

Some day, we'll all be using water borne or just powder coating everything. In the meantime, I'm really enjoying using the Shopline products. That clear coat is amazing stuff, and, don't tell anybody, it's SO easy to use!

Cheers,
Bill
