We’ve often talked about Flossie (Real name Catherine) in our Kentite threads. For those who don’t know about her she is a feisty young lady who despite being blind since she was a toddler lets no challenge beat her. Her love of motorcycle pillion-riding and camping led Graham to persuade her to join him on the back of his Speedtwin ‘Daisy’ and camp with the Kentites and their mates at the famous Rabbit rallies. One of her favourite sports is sailing and she sails regularly on the nearby North Sea and when she heard about the Blind Sailing World Championship (September 11-17 2017) to be held on Lake Michigan in the USA she applied to join the UK team and was accepted. As I understand it each boat has a crew of four of which at least one (The helmsman) is sighted. In her team (GBRA, B1) Flossie was in charge of the main sheet. Looking at the results (kindly found for us by Franko of this site) it seems the Brits, and particularly Flossie’s crew were very successful in winning the competition. For results see: http://www.sailsheboygan.org/2017bfrw/ The results are near the bottom of the web page.
2nd place, on the GBR A-team, in the top B1 division!
AMAZING testament to Flossie and her skill, determination, strength, & grit. One does not just "happen" to be on any A team, competing in the top division! Looks like the GBR1 team at work here? Flossie with her "game face" on at main sail?
