With the imminent demise of Photobucket, I tried posting pics on this forum with Flickr, however, all I get is a link posted on this forum to my picture, not the picture itself.
What am I doing wrong ?

Hi Peter, I've been using Flickr for several years. The major change with Flickr as I see it, has been a move away from word instructions to pictographs.

Click on one of your pics to expand it.

You should see five pictographs in the lower right.

The middle one should look like an arrow, turning right. Click on the arrow.

That should open a box (if you are using some kind of pop-up blocker, it may be blocked, so un-block this site).

Top left of the box says,
Share 1 photo to:
Share Email Embed BBCode

Click on BBCode.

Then chose SIZE of the pic (I usually use Medium)

Copy that link and paste it into your BritBike post.

You will see quite a long string.

Delete everything before [img] and everything after [/img]

Then POST your BB entry.

Hope that helps,

Kurt

Let us know if it works for you, Peter.

I mentioned deleting parts of the BBCode string, you don't have to, this is what comes out when you post the whole string (tag line after pic):

... and edited, as I suggested, gives a cleaner post:

Peter FYI
you are a premium member you can attach photos to your posts.

Quote
Can I attach a file to my post?
When creating a new thread or response, you'll see a "Attachment Manager" link on the "Full Reply" or "New Post" page. When selecting this option you'll receive a popup which will allow you to attach files to your post.

Steps:
1. Click "Attachment Manager" to bring up the "Attachment" window.
2. Click "Browse" to bring up the file browser window; this will allow you to browse your computer for any files or images you wish to upload; please note that you're bound by whatever the "allowed file type" setting is for the forum.
3. Click "Open" on the file you wish to upload.
4. Enter a descriptive caption for that file (optional).
5. Click "Upload" to add another file, or "Done Adding Files" to close the window and complete your posting.

Please note that you must enter some text in both the "subject" and "post" fields when responding otherwise you will receive an error; you cannot just respond with an attachment wink.

PS see below attachment. click on the image to enlarge.

For those who don't mind paying a little for a host site, Kev got me onto Zenfolio. I've been using it now for a couple years and am really happy with it.

ZENFOLIO PLANS PAGE

There is also Smugmug, a site that is, I believe, owned by the same person (or family) that owns ADVrider.com. Smugmug might be a little less expensive than Zenfolio?

SMUGMUG PLANS PAGE

I cannot speak for Smugmug but to share a photo in Zenfolio on BritBike.com, you open the Full Editor and hover your cursor over the
"image tag" icon on the top of the reply box. The box opens and highlighted should already be http://. Some browsers will automatically delete that when you paste in the URL but some don't. If your. image does NOT appear when you actually post, open EDIT and look to see if you have two https:// showing. I just delete the https:// right away and then paste the link.

an image file will look like [img]https://IMAGE URL[/img]

[Linked Image]

AS for sizing an image to post, This site has a size (megapixel) limit. Typically, I believe max 400 X 600 (EDIT: just posted an image file link, I chose LARGE and the size was 640 X 480).

In Zenfolio's "options" I usually choose the size,"large". If you want use one of your images for an avatar then the size should 100 X 100 or a little smaller. Most host sites should give you various sizing options when you go to "share image",IE; Small, Medium, Large, and also possibly an avatar specific size, (X small?) as stated 100 X 100 or less. Zenfolio tells you what the pixel dimensions are for each size designation.

I think I saw Morgan post that a new setting might auto-size your images if you are posting via File Manager, but not sure if the is true or if Im dreaming this up?
