Just loaded three pictures, no problem. I have No Script running which keeps all the data gathering scripts from running but you need to allow pbsrc.com to run.

, correction, as you can see , Photobucket is scrambling links to 3rd party downloads, and holding free account users over a barrel to restore them.
So much for "free" information, i suppose you get what you pay for.

Photobucket is dead to me, and has been for a year. Whatever my computer is or does, it works fine with Flickr and Smugmug, but won't upload to Photobucket or let me see my own pictures any more.

Dead.

I (we) are being blackmailed by Photobucket. All the photos that I have hosted on Photobucket have been disallowed and they are demanding $399 to allow 3rd party Hosting. Because we were not advised this when we started using the service, it seems we have no alternative than to pay their BLACKMAIL request or, too bad, they will no longer post our photos!

Please spread the word. I for one, will not pay $399 to a website that may decide to make such demands, totally disregarding the customer, so all my posted photos (from Photobucket) will now be invisible!

Sounds like the latest Microsoft virus scam. Using a 10 year old macbook and I have no problem logging into and posting pictures. A little slow but still works.

I just did a Google search. There are two pages of people receiving the exact same message and all their photos have been disabled, as well. I was using their free limited service, but as one person said, the all previous info on their service advised that photos could be shared on the internet.

Yep, they've even killed my avatar picture here, so I've replaced the dude from Rednex with good ol' Chino. (I'm gonna have me one of those sweaters, caps, and another Hydra-Glide before I go). I'm not sure I've ever had anything of this nature done to me before; I didn't even get dinner or a kiss first ....

I've been calling Photobucket a failing scam for two years on here and anyone that would listen; sometimes I don't like being right ....

Not got me yet, so I started to download all my pics today.

I have joined https://postimage.io/ and will reload them all there and then the task of changing links begins.

This is going to end badly for them I hope, why give you access to direct links so you can put them on a forum free for years and then suddenly ask for $399 per annum, as a strategy to completely piss off most of your members it will be 100% successful. I see they are even doing it to current paying members.

Having trouble with Photo Bucket? Ever seen anything suddenly and mysteriously 'disappear' from the internet?

This is the reason to hit the "print" button on your computer when you see something you want to keep, as I do.
Once it's printed and in your binder, it's REAL.

Thanks for the link John, will give postimage a try, photo bucket can take a jump at themselves.

I have never used Photobucket and I am not aware of what their user agreement said, but if what I am gleaning from what you all are saying is correct, they have opened themselves up to a class-action suit based on consumer fraud, which in NJ at least, provides for triple damages and attorneys fees.

I've never liked photobucket, too much nonsense.

Whether this is a DOS (denial of service) virus, or an illegal bait and switch scam by photobucket themselves doesn't matter.

I never had a problem with PB and I've been using them for 15 years or more and if my photos disappear it's no big deal they're still all on my hard drive, it's not like I am counting on PB to keep them safe.

Like I said earlier, I've had no issues with PB so far. I just looked at the site and the only thing that pops up is a recommendation to buy more (100 mb) storage at $9.99 a month. 835 images that I would prefer to not loose. So whats the best and quickest way to download? At a quick glance it looks like you would have to move them one at a time.

There is a download by library button, I got 272 in one library and got it in one zip, 25 libraries in all so not too difficult. I have most of the originals but spread across 3 pcs and 5 or 6 memory cards in phones.

Loss of photos is not really an issue, its the loss of the links.
I have photos on photobucket linked to this forum, a couple of steam/model engineering forums, BSAOC forum, a couple of Aprilia forums, Greeves forum, Oldskool performance etc

yes. store everything locally first.

i use carbonite to store them on the cloud as well, as a backup.

I agree with Andy, it's the loss of the links. Countless threads that were chock full of information and were available to everyone are now made worthless in one fell swoop by the greedy scum suckers at the Photobucket Site.

I knew this day would happen sometime. Now it has. I am done with all internet forums. It has been a nice experience till now. Thanks all and good-bye!

TR6Ray -

Now how come the slimy tactics of ONE photo-Hosting site is a reason to be "done with all internet forums"? I mean, there ARE reasons to just drop the internet; on balance it can be as much of a useless time waster as it is a useful communication tool, but I wouldn't think that losing some photo links would be one of the reasons to drop it?

I've got many hundreds of photos of bikes, work-in-progress, travelogues, dogs, etc on PhotoBucket, and every one of them was loaded there so I could share it on an internet forum somewhere, so there are many hundred dead links now on BritBike and other sites I inhabit.

But I can just use a different site now, move forward, keep on posting pics, and away we go .... ! Now if SmugMug does us this way, I might have had enough ... !!

Well you get what you pay for.
Running massive servers full of images that are continually downloaded to places like this forum for free costs money.
They recoup that from selling your images and some data to ad companies .
I would guess that Farce book has probably eaten into their profits quite a bit.
There is o suck thing as a free lunch and that applies just as much to the web as to your local diner .
I have no problems with the bucket either but Drop box has done similar.
They froze my account unless they got money for extra storage

Yes this sucks. Mine were still here yesterday. Get an upgraded membership and post images directly here. Much simpler. That will have saved my most recent image posts. Doesn't help with the dead links. Only things I have on chuckbucket are images I've linked to.

It looks that PB is making their restrictions in waves. I just got hit with their ransom post yesterday. Won't be paying the $399 fee either. It's the loss of the links that hurts. Countless threads that were chock full of information and were available to everyone are now made worthless in one fell swoop by Photobucket. No advance warning either. Maybe all for the better. Their site and my images were always very difficult to get to load.

I'm giving postimage a try.
