I might be over thinking this, but I'm going to make an attempt to hand draw the pinstripes on my '70 gas tank. I've got a nice blue coat of paint on there now and really like the color. So, a couple of questions:

1) Should the pinstripe overlap the edge of the blue paint, i.e. pinstripe paint on both the blue paint and the chrome?
2) I'm going to clearcoat the tank. Should I clearcoat the blue and then pinstripe the edge over the clearcoat, or pinstripe and then clearcoat everything? I would assume the latter, but I have nagging doubts.

The A65 factory tanks I have had are pin striped to "seal" the paint edge, as you said half on / half off. The tanks I've painted I do the same thing, so YES to your question.
I also clear the finished color/pin stripe, and try to just barely overlap the outside edge with the clear. Of course paint on chrome is not supposed to stick, but I've been happy so far.
