Greetings,all!
Thought I would place this question before the general British crowd 1st before checking with the competition forum. Looking through my stash of camshafts & tappets I have found some I would like to put back into service. Some have suffered slight rust pitting and others some flaking. (I suspect also due to rust or poor storage). Are some of the "performance coatings" available suitable for restoring the surfaces or should I have the surfaces welded and reground? I know, you are probably thinking that a slightly pitted surface will probably outlast me, but I am intent on making my engines as "right" as possible in the hopes that they will provide continued good service. Any shared ideas or experience welcome!

REgards!

The followers can have Stellite pads replaced and re-profiled.
Some cams can be built up and re-ground, it depends on who is doing the job and the base material.
If the pitting is very slight they can sometimes just be re-ground and hardened.

Actually, some slight/small pitting isn't a bad thing, it retains oil!!!

Some early camshafts aren't worth putting back into service. It all depends upon the make and model year.
