I'm working like a rented mule, trying to get a bike going.

Like an idiot, I tried to follow the Norton manual instructions and pull the carb top while the carb was still on the bike, you have to bend it so hard to clear the top tube that the needle popped out, hit my boot, and disappeared. I mean DISAPPEARED, I looked for it an hour last night, Fay and I are going out in a few minutes and look some more. In future, I'll do it the way I know works ....

Meanwhile I finally got the wheel and new brake on the A10, then the cable wouldn't fit any more since the old brake was so knackered from thousands of miles of overloaded two-up riding in the mountains, it had an inch of throw so the cable worked, now it was so tight it wouldn't go, and my spare didn't work either, so had to shorten it, then I had to do a bunch of handwork to the new sidestand so the through-bolts would go onto the frame lug, then found out the A10 tank had rusted inside from the ethanol crap, so it's got to come off, then who knows what I'll find?

And I've been "borrowing" parts off the Firebird to keep the other two going, so I don't know if I've got enough spares on the shelf to get it going or not.

Maybe I'm just not cut out for this sort of thing any more.

But my conscience worries me if I bring a new bike ... Don R. convinced me in 2013 that I shouldn't be leading rides on a new bike, being one of the charter members of this Vintage Bike Ride, and he was right, and Ben and Jack are conspiring together, agreeing that the whole fun of this deal is all the old bikes, and even RF, who NEVER rides an old bike to or at this gathering, is saying that we should be riding our old bikes .... !

It'll be fun when I get there ... if I haven't pulled all my hair out by that time ... ! If I could ONLY make myself follow Shaun's plan during the winter, I wouldn't have these Chinese Fire Drills every spring .... !

Lannis: Did I say that? smile I kinda threw it out the window last year due to the R3 having Lucas ignition switch issues. Turned out it didn't really mater, the faster group ended up having a leader by committee kinda feel to it. I think Windy described it as akin to "Hearding cats" smile . I may have to ride the more modern bike this year too unfortunately. The "Boy" and his wife plan to attend again this year and I couldn't see them on the KLR again so I offered them a test run on the R3 and the '96 Trident. Seems the young wife preferred the old Rocket to the "new" bike, said it was way more comfortable! I like her smile ! See you all soon!

Just as every other year I will have plenty of buckets out for recycling, plenty of towels for drying (not that we're going to need them), the oil on the parking lot is for memories and of course Ray's tool box is always on stand by if needed.

Bill, since Bodine had to cancel, I will definitely bring my trailer, and some extra tie downs. I expect to be at Melissa's about eleven or so. If you need me for anything, 828 371 8696

Sam and I will headed out shortly. This will be our fourth year. We are trailering to the Inn at Otter Peak and will ride from there to Blowing Rock on Friday. Hoping the rain gods go elsewhere this weekend. Looking forward to seeing all again. Have a safe journey everyone.

Funny, I'm doing exactly the same thing .... A10 and the Norton are loaded up, but the Norton is ready to go only because it's tied to a trailer that will go.

I'm going to park the Norton in the BWI parking lot with some tools, and some milk and cookies, and see if the Norton elves will sneak out in the night and get it running.

Although I have a sneaking suspicion that the elves in that town would prefer a cooler of beer .....
