Any reviews of the NEB clutch / belt drive? It looks good and considerably cheaper than the Newby version/

I too have been looking at the NEB clutch. Any information or opinions on belt driven clutches from the Gold Star collective would be great.

Middle East,
Isn't 'NEB' Bob Newby's initials, arranged backwards?

Doubt it as NEB do a lot more than on Bob's site, B44 barrels and cranks is one.

I bought one of NEBs crankshafts for my CB a year ago and it looks really good. However, when it arrived one end was hanging out of the box. I emailed them about improving their packing methods.

Middle East,
That'd be disappointing. I bought an NEB crank 25 years ago and it came in a very nice wooden box - in which it subsequently did 2 international moves before it was used (20 years later!)

A large proportion of speedway/grasstrack bikes use NEB clutches they appear pretty bulletproof. Different plates are available, pink/soft, brown/med, green/hard so you can adapt the take up to your liking

Newby clutches also use the same plates

Hi
I have NEB clutches on both my Gold Stars with RRT2 boxes.
They are far superior to the BSA items, with a large roller bearing supporting the clutch drum, superior plates and a large "mushroom" to actuate the clutch.
As has been mentioned, they are used on most speedway bikes for quick getaways and bikes with much more bhp than a Gold Star. Believe it is based on the Jawa speedway bike design.

Having said all this, I was told by the rider of the 100mph Gold Star at the Isle of Man
that the Newby clutch is superior, but I think this is only marginal.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. Pretty certain a lot of the British Goldie (& other classics) racers use NEB clutches - in another league to the BSA clutch. They're pretty good kit. I expect the Newby is comparable.
The only issue might be - if you're not racing but using original chaincases - is will it fit inside them? I have a feeling a narrower belt & front pulley might be required due to space limitations? Might be worth getting some dimensions.
Perhaps someone will have experience of this?

Either version: chain or belt will fit within the chances.

They are quite a tight fit, I made a spacer for between the crank case and inner primary.
Then reduced the spacer between the inner primary and the frame near the foot pegs.
