Pardon my ignorance...but, can someone enlighten me about "made in England- Jones" rims?I thought I had bought a NOS set of English Dunlop rims... Oops! Now that I unwrap them, I find they are NOS "Jones" rims. So much for trusting the vendor! The display sets were, in fact, labeled Dunlop. At least these are pristine, but just not OEM Dunlops. Oh, well!!! Guess I will spoke them up anyway since they look so nice, but I am curious as to what I really have. Any experience/info out there?

Thanks!!!

Without going out to the garage to look at the fleet I checked in the basement shop and found only Jones rims on the original pre-unit BSA wheels and the B44 Victors. The few spare Triumph wheels in the shop are all Dunlops.

I will do a proper check in the morning to see if I have any Dunlop steel rims on BSA wheels as it could well be that both types were used.

I would be very happy with NOS Jones rims if the holes were correct for my application.

Not to worry. My '71 Daytona came brand new with a Dunlop front rim and a Jones rear. Apparently they were interchangable depending on what was closest in the parts bin as the bike passed down the assembly line.

That would make sense considering the year. 71/72 was the Umberslade BSA/Triumph era.......

Although you can hardly call 2-3 years an era...

Jones and Dunlop were the suppliers of rims to Triumph and BSA. I would imagine Nortons too.

Although in my experience Jones rims are more common on BSA's, I have found them on Triumphs. Most Triumphs through the late 1960's have Dunlop rims. Both can be had under the same part numbers and are correct OEM rims.

I have several of both. Hope this helps !!

Well this has made interesting reading! I have only just recently sold some 'Joneses' rims on eBay. The chrome was very tired and did not look good at all, in fact I was a bit ashamed to had been putting them on eBay at all. But hey, I was amazed at the amount of interest they fetched and the final price they went for. Seems that this thread has explained why.

Yes, I've got Jones rims on various wheels all around the shop, all originals from the 60s.

More Dunlop, but a fair percentage of Jones'.

I wonder if Bigtwin is still wondering about Jones rims... 2008 to 2016.

That's a long time.

Don in Nipomo, with a few Jones myself.

Jones have made a recent appearance in Wassell reseller's advert materials lately, VERY inexpensive for classic rims...

My 74 T150 had Jones rims. I replaced a bent one with a later Radelli. Chrome was not nearly as good, pitted within a year.

My 1974 TR5T's have a combination and the eng/frame numbers are 100 apart.

Dunlop rims on this one.

Jones on the front, Dunlop on the rear for the other, the hub and spokes look the same so might be what was on the shelf come time to lace a wheel.
NOS Jones rims (21 ") seem hard to come by.
Not sure what B50 MX's had given the similar rolling chassis.

Although going off on a tangent and on an years old thread...

Anything was possible on the day, both of these bikes have July 1974 prefixes but built well before that is seems.
The earlier bike by engine number is the 'shinier one.
The older looking one (higher by 100 engine number) has a 1973 kick start and shorter 1973 exhaust which matched the overall bike condition.
It is also the only other I have seen with a Krizman spark arrestor sticker on the muffler.

Greetings Don & Jon!
Yep! 2008-2016 is a long time to wonder...about anything! I still (after all this time!) have not had a definitive answer as to whether or not "Jones" rims were standard for my ride or not. As my affliction is with Royal Enfields (Twins in particular) it is a matter of curiosity more than of importance! I have always speculated that "standard" RE production varied due to the parts on hand at the actual moment of production. The rims in question laced up perfectly and have been rolling along nicely since 2008 with no pitting evident so far. So, in my experience, they have proven to be equal to the NOS Dunlops fitted to my other bikes... "Jones" rims do seem to command a bit of interest on Greed-bay, though! I'll leave it to the restoration folks to lay awake and wonder regarding the "correct" fitment!

REgards!

Guess it really does depend on what was on hand the day your bike was assembled.
My T150v was stamped in June of '74, but it had a T160 kicker.
