Hello,

I found an old AJW that the owner says it is an 1937. However the frame serial number is different than the one on the title. It has a long stroke JAP 600 single engine with side valves. The serial number on the engine seems to be either a '34 or a '54 according to the JAP decoding tables.

It looks a little like a Flying Fox or a Grey Fox but I could not find any information online about what models ran from what year to what year and some of the specs for one year vs the other.

Is there somebody that could help me figure out what year this motorcycle is or refer to an archive that has a record of the frame numbers and whether the Jap sidevalve 600 sport single is from 34 or 54?

Any info would be appreciated. Before taking on another project I would like to get an idea about how complicated this thing could become.

The VMCC may have the info, but the frame number not matching the title rings alarm bells

Thank you,

I will check out the link you sent. You're right about the big question mark about the title and frame numbers. I've seen it before where some folks put two bikes into one or swap things around to get one running. I am definitely on guard but it has the potential to be a really cool project ...

When viewing check the frame carefully, sometimes the casting numbers of headstock castings get confused with frame numbers etc. Maybe the Title frame number is on there but not as readable and the current owner has missed it, or its a mixture of bikes that not longer are the bike that the title is for.
