Hi,
The kick starter on my T110 is dropping (rotating backwards) when I accelerate in first and second, any ideas why this is happening?

Was it ok and then started doing this?

Have you interfered with the gearbox cover recently?

Started to notice it about a week ago and it coincided with first gear getting crunchy and the clutch getting stiff on the release.

Checked and changed both the primary and gearbox oil but no better, the clutch and first gear get worse once things have warmed up.

Check k/s spring as it sounds like its getting weak,should flick back strongly. Either way I would remove outer cover to check ...Dave

It would be odd for the big clock spring on the kickstart to become weak suddenly.

While the gearbox outer cover's off, check the nut on the mainshaft is not loose.

Also check that the ratchet pinion on the mainshaft turns one way and is held into the ratchet by the thin spring behind it. That spring can break.

Don't take the pedals off before removing the gearbox cover.

Kick starter sorted, the return spring was 180 degrees out.

Been suggested that a 7 plate clutch and T120 springs will sort the gear change out.

I'd agree with Triton Thrasher above.

The Bonnie springs will just make the clutch pull heavier, rather than improve the clutch.
Get the main adjustment correct (pushrod clearance) and check that the pressure plate lifts square.

Otherwise, what oil are you running in the primary?

I'll check it all in the week, the pushrod clearance is good, but I've not ventured into the clutch yet. Not too sure what oil the clutch has in it as it was put in by the P/O, it's been suggested that ATF would be good to use, any thoughts?

...I have the cork inserts and the other day I cleaned them up with kerosene and the difference is notorious good.

Check for indentations; if you have it fill it (welding)
change the primary chain.

The late pre units (post '58 I think) have a seal on the drive end of the crankshaft so ATF would be fine. Before that the engine could breathe through the drive side main bearing so there is a chance of getting ATF mixed in with the engine oil.

I'm using the same oil as in the engine on mine ('55) with no problems.

I've been using ATF in my pre-unit and it seems to work fine. MY Primary case is marked "USE LIGHT SAE 20 OIL" I understand ATF is approx SAE 20.
