the original ARD mags used a fairbanks-morse magneto, and the timing cover/belt drive casting was a one-piece unit. the unit from britcycle is a replica using an australian-made timing cover/belt drive casting and a modern joe hunt magneto.
joe hunt and morris both make mags that bolt to triumphs, either in place of the contact breaker assembly or off the tach drive at the other end of the cam. either one of these will run you US$900 bucks or so.
the genuine ARDs go on eBay or vintage flattracker sites like http://vft.org/vftforsale2TWO.html -- usually for no less than US$1300. the inner electrics and ball bearings might be junk, but they can be rebuilt completely for another US$400. if you watch eBay you sometimes see them on sale for a bit less.
Yh I have experience with Hunt mags. Had one on my 500 Daytona and have one on my T140D atm that I wish to relocate. I've looked (longingly) into the various mounting options for some years now, Timing side/Primary side and through an adapted starter motor timing cover, it would be nice to get it out of the way. (I've wrecked one in the past thanks to a combination of rain/diesel/dick in a range-rover)
Useful to know the castings come from Aus. I don't suppose you know the name of the manufacturer? It's only the drive casting I really need tbh. I have drawn up plans to make one (cast & Welded), but I'll still keep looking in the meantime, you never know when one will pop up
And thank you for the link to the tracker parts, most useful.
I sold one back in 1995 that came off a good running 1969 650 for the pricely sum of $150 and a stock timing cover to take its place. At the time I thought I did well. I'm glad I don't HAVE the desire to have one or I'd be in trouble !
I think ol' lytedrive flew the coop. I recall chris bernardi had him make an aoli tank that came out decent, and LD was supplying people with belt drives and all kinds of stuff. but I also seem to recollect some negatives and the guy wasn't heard from again. now this goes back several years and my memory is funky. but I know there was an issue of some sort.
oh I see! yeah there was a time some years ago that anyone selling thing on the board that could be construed a bizz was given the boot. a ran afoul of the new rules myself because I had a web site listed in my signature here.
I was banned from jj until new ownership took it over. I don't remember my log in stuff but I may go check on lyte drive sometime myself.

Kevin, $1100 is way too much, as I don't need another magneto, as I said, I have a mag already that I wish to relocate and am only looking for the belt-drive case (and it's contents if possible)
And Jon, I have been looking for contact details for Lytedrive (John Scerri) but have yet to come up with any, net searches are bringing up lots of forum posts about him but no business contact details or website for lytedrive
there must be a number of used ones out there, I'm regularly checking a few U.S. dirt-track website classifieds/forums but nothing yet.
Thanks to all who contributed assistance. Happy to say I now have a Mag belt-drive case. Still have pulleys & belt to get but they are they easy bits, local firm who can supply is about 100 metres away
