That is a great shame. I never met Pete nor even spoke with him. I knew him only via his postings on this site. He had a deep knowledge of Triumphs and more importantly in my view, was prepared to spend time and effort to impart that knowledge to those of us less knowledgeable. My thoughts and condolences are with his family at this sad time. R.I.P.
I read a post from Pete R on another bike forum last spring about the time he stopped posting here...Pete said he was in Africa, Nigeria I believe,and seemed to be having a good time. He mentioned a bar owner was trying to sell him his daughter. ... No tears for Pete, just a good Irish wake telling stories and singing songs of great battles and wild women...

HB--I remember that posting--I am pretty sure it was here on Britbike because I responded and shared with him some of my experiences in Nigeria. Whatever---keep the revs high and the bends quick, Pete, and keep tuning up those Triumphs in heaven. And for the rest of us---none of know the date or manner of our passing--so--get out there and ride those Brit bikes! That is the real way in which I am sure Pete would have wanted us to remember him by.
I rang his mobile phone this morning. The message said not available. He has helped me in the past many times and always happy to do so. His mind was like an encyclopaedia of Triumph facts,figures and dimensions. Today as I assemble the clutch on the old race bike I will be thinking of him. Sincere condolences to his family.
I like to print out the more helpful, literate replies whether I asked the question or not. I keep them in a file. Was going through them today. It's amazing how many are from Pete R. He could explain the incomprehensible in easy to understand words. He is missed.

I agree, desco. I literally would not have gotten my bike built without his help. The man was an all-around genius. He was not just someone with engineering knowledge, or mechanical, welding, and machining cabilities, or excellent memory, or willingness to help, or a good motorcyclist, he was all of those things and more.
