Nice to see a leaking non-original T100P with DD engine codes at Oakover Winery today. Looked still to have its original rego too. Obviously Western Australia police went for the cheap version, not the TR6P....

Not in NSW. I purchased this '64 ex-police T120 in 1966. (note the ball-tearing rego holder smile ) RR

Yes! The 1969 TR6Ps were built in a large batch in early Dec 68, many of these going to Aus. NSW got ones in the series XC05XXX (mine is one of these), QLD XC06XXX. Not sure if other states got them, but quite likely. NSW supplied through Hazell & Moore, Sydney, QLD through Morgan & Wacker, Brisbane (they are still in business). I hope that might be of some interest.

I bought a '66 TR6P from Morgan and Wacker in 1968. Went down to pick one out from a line and i took one with low milage and some front end damage. They fitted a new '68 Trophy front end, painted it whatever color you wanted and they fitted twin hi level pipes down one side with reverse cone megaphones (daytona style). Great bike. With a little head work it was very quick.
Ken.

The WA Police NEVER rode Triumphs in the 50s and 60s.
I remember getting on the back of a Cop bike from Southern Cross. The Cop was going out with my older sister at the time, it was 1962, I was 12, she was 19. He had a black Bonneville. As far as I recall that was the only Triumph I ever saw, ridden by the WA police. They always had BSAs, A10s then later A65s. It was a bit of of a joke for us young guys in the late 60s, we mostly had Bonnies and NEVER stopped if a motorbike Cop tried to stop us, we used to burn the cops off on a regular basis.

Could WA Police have had Triumphs in the 70s? This was an early 70 model, which obviously could have come from interstate, but it had a UI.... rego - about right for the year?

My 68 Bonnie was UL037. I guess UI would have been about 1967 or real early 1968.
Its a mystery, the Police may have had this Triumph to trial it against the Beezas of the day. I know they did this with cars, they had Falcon V8s but also had a couple of Monaros.

This was UI with 4 digits on yellow background. I think these were issued in the 70s? The trial theory has some merit as this was a common practice. Did WA Police get the T65 Thunderbolt in 72/ 73 which wasn't really a BSA at all!!. SA Police definately had them.

They did have black and yellow plates for a while and they may have re issued UI with 4 digits, I am not sure. I think they started using Jap bikes about then, that is not to say they didnt have a Triumph or two By 1972 I had survived the bike days and was up the NW working, so lost touch a bit on what went on in Perth.

I believe that Morgan and Wacker were always Harley Davidson dealers. I was once told that they were the first HD dealer in Australia. I was also told that they were told by HD to drop the Triumph line when Hinckley started to make "cruisers". They didn't worry about BMW though, which Morgan and Wacker also sell (across the road).

I read on the Internet (so it must be true) that Morgan & Wacker are the oldest continuously operating H-D dealer outside the USA.

It must be true. It says so on their web site smile

Morgan & Wacker also had the Kawasaki dealership for a couple of years when they were in Elizabeth Street.
