1958 Matchless G80s petrol / fuel tank needed. I have been using a nice looking fiberglass tank for the last four years and am patching it for the third time.
Would like a metal tank in good condition. There are several on eBay, but would like to avoid eBay if possible.
Thanks
John

I have Matchless G80CS tanks, completely restored by Ross Thompson, ready to go on the bike. Original not repop. $1250. Bill

Hi ATEN,
Afraid that's a bit out of my price range. Hoping to keep within a budget of under $500.

I understand, I looked for 4 years to find mine! If you add up purchasing a used original tank, having it restored, and the paint you come up with my price. I am just trying to recover my investment. Bill

With Ross Thompson's work you can bet there is no bondo or filler in that tank.

The tank in the above pictures is for a pre-1956 frame & doesn't fit later. 1956-59 competition tanks had the same shape but had tubular mounts forward to take the studs with expanding rubber isolators. The rear mounts were two tabs protruding down, drilled to fit a stud. The frame for these years have a reinforced horizontal hole with recesses on the side to fit stepped rubber isolators. Steel & aluminum tanks were supplied.

I have re-sealed the fiberglass tank and will continue to use it until it fails again.
I am a member of the AJS / Matchless club (Jampot.com). Using their bike dating service I have verified the the bike is an all original Bitsa. The frame number does not match the records for single downtube farmes. The number is from a twin downtube frame. It's a Matchless engine in an unknown frame with AJS logos all over it.
Of course I'm disappointed but the bike is a great rider and a lot of fun, it just isn't worth spending much money on a nice fuel tank.
So at least for the time being I am no longer looking for a fuel tank.
Sorry I wasted your time, I'm a bit embarrassed.

No worries here. I think most of us have had similar in some form or fashion happen to us at one time or another in this hobby !

I have a tank for single downtube AJS/M frame. It looks OK, but I'm pretty sure it has some filler in it. If you still need one.
