I have not had a chance to ride the loop yet as it has been wet and when not it is a$$holes and elbows with work and when wet than inside shop work. if and thats a big if it does not rain ( 90% sat but drops to70% sunday) this sunday I will try to run it to see what we have this year. I can say 421 is getting worse in places but is still OK.

Sam and I will arrive at the Blowing Rock Inn sometime mid day on Friday, providing the pair of Triumphs continue to run. We are leaving the flat land of the Atlantic coastal plain on Thursday and biking down the parkway to practice on curves and hills, prior to the ride. We have some curves on Northern Neck but hills - well there is an occasional rise. Been fooling with the bike trying to fix all the loose nuts, oil leaks, and so on. So far everything is go. Did a 100 mile run to lunch yesterday and both bikes performed well. We had a great time last year (although an electrical issue nailed me partway, very simple but it took some time to run down) and both of us are looking forward to the weekend. See everyone in a few weeks.

I am always an optimist when it comes to Britbikes!

1) The basic bike is in great fettle thanks to Our Richrd.

2) The duff rectifier has been replaced.

3) I'm procuring a little voltmeter that I will velcro on to the top triple-clamp so I can make sure it's charging like I think it is.

4) Took it for a 60-mile errand-running stop and go ride today, and it did great.

5) "Return to Idle" is a little dodgy. Sounds like a sticky AAU because it doesn't happen every time ... but might be carb adjustment. I get some popping on decel when hot.

6) I'm cobbling up a little luggage rack; Fay and I will be traveling very light. When a woman can get 3 days worth of clothes in a bag the size of two large dictionaries to ride with you, you KNOW she's in love.

7) I might cobble up a windshield mount too. I was riding into a 20 MPH gusty wind today and my arms can still feel it. Maybe I'm just getting old, but you have to no-fooling-around HANG ON at 70 MPH into that stuff.

I'm going to take a ride next week with a gallon gas can behind me, and run one tank and the reserve dry and see what it does.

But other than those things, I think it's ready to go! Should be about a 900-mile weekend total ....

like i told you the AAU is a real problem on a norton and an idle issue is a sure sign of a bad AAU.

Don't think I'm gonna make it this year... Lots going on in May plus I am booked in for the Norton Rally in Asheville in July.
BTW
I got some email from "Melissa" with a *link* in it. Didn't open the link deleted the whole bit.
Anyone else get one of these?

With this being my first time to attend, I plan on being at the Blowing Rock Inn either late Thurs. or mid-day Fri. depending on departure times, traffic, etc. My wife is considering coming along but doesn't want to be the only wife/girlfriend there. Any other better half's attending? Is there a loose schedule for rides, meal gatherings, bikini contests, etc.? And her first question, "Is there a shopping mall near-by?".

No shopping mall unless you go to Boone, 10 miles or so.

You can spend all day shopping in little boutiques and art galleries in Blowing Rock, it's a quaint old-fashioned touristy little town.

People who are already at the BRI or Wendy's campground will be informally riding around on Friday.

Dinner together at a local restaurant on Friday evening around 6:00 PM.

We can certainly have a bikini contest - your wife can try on different bikinis and the team will judge which one is best. No pressure at all.

There will be at least two other wives there, but mine will be riding in with me and riding on the TSMR on Saturday.

The main ride (210 miles or so) will leave from a park on the BRP about 3 miles from Blowing Rock at 10:00 AM Saturday. We try to be there by 9:30 to allow for fouled spark plugs and flooded Amals. We'll be back by like 5:30 PM depending on the weather.

We usually have a catered barbeque meal on Saturday evening at the BRI after everyone straggles in from the ride (someone will be broken down or lost, it's part of the fun), but I'm not sure if that's on this year or not. If not, we'll be different places having dinner.

Usually on Friday and Saturday evening, someone will be in the gazebo or in our little suite picking some string music.

Sunday morning is packing up and goodbyes, place is usually empty by 10:00. Fay and I will wait till the fog lifts to ride out, so we'll be some of the last ....

Thunderbutt....tell your wife that there's an outlet mall (strip mall type) within walking distance of the motel and as Lannis says there are also PLENTY of shops downtown which are within walking distance of the motel. Blowing Rock is a resort town...so they have shopping covered. bigt

If she gets a chance.....downtown Boone (just a short drive) also has some interesting shopping. Boone is a college town AP State, but since it's in the mountains it's also considered a resort town. Headed out Hwy 105 towards Foscoe (look on a map) there are some REALLY nice shops if she's into local hand made pottery, jewelry, clothes, paintings and such.

Melissa or Ray (the motel owners) will be happy to point her in the right direction....if there's no girlfriends or wifes left at the motel Saturday morning.

I'm missing it already.....Pokey

Mixed reviews on "Southern Comforts", the place that took over the "Knights on Main" location ....

We're going to give it an open-minded try, though, and see how they do. Sometimes I don't know what to think about Yelp and TripAdvisor reviews, looks like some people are real picky, or want to get back at them because the waitress didn't respond to their flirting or something.

I owned a two-stroke joke once ... an old Vespa. Really funny when other people watched me on the highway in a crosswind ...
