Hey guys,

The clutch cable adjustment nut that threads into the top of the gearbox housing has broken off inside the housing - making it impossible for me to adjust my clutch. Does anyone know the part number for that piece so I can replace it? I'm having a helluva time finding it online (read: I can't!).

Thanks in advance,
Eric

I thought it was PART of a new cable, not a separate piece... at least that's what I see on my 63.

Hi Eric,

the adjuster is part number 014225 & the lock nut is part number 011373.

I believe I called Les Emery @ Norvil on mine, as there is a newer part number that supercedes the old number

Email me directly & ill send you the blueprint of the earlier gearbox (with the adjusted at the box rather than at the handlebars).

Is the Atlas clutch cable adjuster like the one on the laydown box,
where it actually threads into the boss on the gearbox outer cover ?

The only AMC boxes I have seen lately have only a small nipple that goes into the gearbox outer cover - but maybe I wasn't paying attention, or the Atlas was quite different...

The laydown box cable adjuster screw is over .300".

The atlas screw in is about .240". This is on 2 "N" and over 6 "NA" featherbed gearboxes (and one matchless). Not one of my norton clutch cables will slip thru the .240 adjuster. While not all still have good threads in the outer cover, they all show evidence of residual threads.
I have 2 cables with the adjuster on them with NO ability to take them off with out demanufacturing the cable.
You of course can put a new replacement adjuster on your old cable, if you can find one, and can do cable repair.

All my commando boxes have the drop in the hole nipple.

That's what I see here on my hardware?

Dave typed "nipple". That's very funny for Dave, if you find mammals as amusing as I do... Got my Atlas cables from Norvil. Les at Norvil will help you out. I've found he calls back in short order if you have silly questions, and sets you right. He stands behind his products/nstuff. Laydown, eh? Nipple.

The adjuster is part of the clutch cable as the ball will not fit through it. Now maybe someone can tell me the difference between the ball end cables and the pear end cables, other than the fact that the pear ends do not fit through the AMC box.
