I have a G80CS with the engine number 61/G80CS 4040.
Is there any way to find out the correct frame number that started out with this engine?
Thanks,
Max

No there is no way as the records for the competition models made that year (and others) were destroyed.

The best that can be done is to compare with the known numbers registered with the North American club to see if it falls within an acceptable range of numbers.

However, I do find that 61G80CS 4040 is registered to another name in our North American registry.

Regards,

Rick

Thats almost certain that it could be registered in North America as I bought it from a guy in Utah a couple of years ago.
Can I get the registry changed? I think I have the title, I will post it up if I can get photobucket to play the game.
Max.

No I dont have a copy of the title, I think the title is kept by the authorities before export from the US.

Max and Paul:

The 61 G80CS 4040 was registered to a gentlemen in Kentucky in 2009. After that, I'm not sure where ownership went. The bike did have a frame number registered at that time. Send me a PM and I will try to help.

The UK club does have the records for 52 &53 competition models (plus some 54 records). If you have the engine and frame number, they will confirm that they are correct, or incorrect. They will not provide the number to match a frame and engine if you only have the engine and/or frame number.

It is a real shame that the competition records disappeared after the factory closed. The best hypothesis is that that they went into a dumpster.

Regards,

Rick

Paul:

Your engine and frame number are consistent with a 53 18S. However, in order to verify that they actually belong to the same bike, you would have to verify with the UK club dating officer.

Rick T

Yes, that is the frame number that was registered with 4040 with the NA Club registry.

Having said that, there is no way if knowing that those are the numbers that the bike had when it left the factory!

The numbers ARE consistent with other numbers (range of) for the same year of bikes registered with the club. My best guess is that they are the original numbers.

Regards,

Rick T
