I have posted replies on a couple of threads in the past 2 or 3 days but there is no sign of them now. What's happened to them? By way of a constructive suggestion, may I suggest that somebody who knows about these things checks it out and fixes it? It is quite frustrating! Thanks.

Tigernuts, you show having made 9 posts in total. Some Morgan did not include, such as some T140 posts(?). In checking, I can find all these posts, they are still here. Are you saying that you have made more than 9 posts?
To double check this, go to "My Stuff", select "View Posts", and you can see them. All 9 still exist in the threads originally posted in. Last post shows a date of 11/16.
Thanks for your replies. I did post (or at least wrote) two more responses to threads than are shown in the record. Both in the Triumph bulletin board, one re. the T120TT pistons heading and the other re. the Ignition timing heading. Both seem to have vanished without trace. Both were within the past week or so. Both were using the quick reply facility (no idea what advantage there is in using the other sort?)
I've had this happen on another forum, just a couple of times. On that forum, others said they'd had the same thing. God knows where the text goes, but its enough to put me off bothering! Lets see if this gets through...
PS: Like this one, I went back and edited to remove my 'signature' - could that throw things? Why can't I set things up so that no 'signature' is my default setting? What's the point in inventing a pseudonym if your real name is going to get shown every time?!
Why can't I set things up so that no 'signature' is my default setting?
Most people list their bikes only in their signature and no names, if you leave it blank then nothing gets posted but it saves people asking what bike the question is about if you forget to add the details in a question.
Tigernuts, it sounds to me most likely operator error, though this site does have the occasional ghost in the machine. Nobody else seems to be having this problem. I've asked Morgan to review your profile setup, to make sure there are no conflicts that could cause this.
The signature is optional, you'll notice many members, myself included, don't use one. You should not have to edit to remove it, should be a setup procedure under My Stuff.
Tigernuts , try 'select all' and 'copy' , before 'preview' and 'post' . That way there is a copy on your clipboard if the post gets lost ... and Use the 'preview' feature to see if 'links' and pictures will display correctly .
I've just looked in the 'my stuff' section, in the 'my profile' bit. I can confirm that I didn't put anything in the 'Signature' box right from the start, so where the hell my name came from I don't know. When first joining the forum a big issue is made of giving your real name (for reasons I don;t really understand but I went along with it anyway - I hate filling in online forms only to have them rejected because some part isn't properly filled in, so I dutifully obeyed all the instructions).
So, I haven't deleted my signature. I tried to find out how to a week pr so ago and couldn't figure it out. If it's gone, I'll be glad.
As for 'operator error', that is a real possibility as I haven't the vaguest idea how computer stuff works. But I can state with confidence that I did type those two replies, and I did click the right button, and they did vanish!
I'll go back and 'edit' this to say whether the signature thing came up again:-
Right - it did, and I had to go back and delete it yet again. Can someone tell me in plain language how to re-set my default settings so that this doesn't keep happening? To reiterate, there is nothing whatsoever written in the 'signature' box in the 'my profile' bit.

when you edit your sig, are you scrolling to the bottom and clicking "submit"?
as for the disapearing, are you saying they appear on the thread and then disappear,? or could they never get to the the thread? Some people have had this problem with some browsers. I don't know if there is an answer to that one except as quinten says, copy your post in case you have to re do it.

I've asked Morgan to re-install your membership profile to see if that solves the problem. Can't see anything wrong with it as is, but...? No visible reason for your name to come up as a signature, or your posts vanishing on edit.
OK, it has changed a bit but not much. Now, the bit to the left of the box where I am writing this, has the following text:
HTML is disabled UBBCode is enables [a tick box, pre-ticked] Add Signature
If there's any way of changing the default so that I have to positively choose to add a signature, rather than make sure I remember to un-tick the box, I'd be grateful if someone could let me know, thanks.
Nice idea Richrd, trouble is, I don't know how to! I can't find anything in my 'my stuff' section that invited me to add, subtract or edit any kind of 'signature' - that's the problem!
On this one, those HTML / UBBCode things are in a different place, at lower left under 'Post Options'. The 'Add my signature to this post (complete with the box pre-ticked by default - I have just un-ticked it) is to the right of those. I'm only mentioning this in case it helps anyone in control of this forum understand what's happening....
OK, just done that. There is a signature box just as you say, but there's nothing written in it. I checked the 'Preview' button in case something was hidden, but no, not one of the max 225 characters has been used - so where does my surname come from unless I untick that 'Add Signature' box?
So, now I know how I could add something to the signature box in My Profile, but why would I need to? Do other people have this? I'm really crap with computers and this kind of thing does my head in!
And another thing(!) - where did that yellow smiley face symbol come from next to my username? I didn't put it there (wouldn't know how to if I wanted to, which I don't).
Unbelievable. No signature that time. All I did differently was to write some gibberish in the signature section in My Profile. So without anything in there, it adds something and when you add something it subtracts it. It all makes perfect sense.
If anything other than a blank space is visible here, something's wrong.
ok, now that the world is again safe for dogs and little kids, let me see if I can understand what started all this.
you say that before, your real name appeared at the bottom of your posts?
Yes, exactly. Unless I un-ticked the 'Add my signature to this post' box (which I see is sitting below this text box with a default tick already in it again - I won't un-tick it when I submit this, and see what happens)
Edit: Well, that was ok. Lets see if it still doesn't do anything when I post an edit...
Still OK! Looks like problem solved, but it does seem odd to me. Maybe everyone else types something in their My Profile signature box and wonders why nothing ever appears on screen, but don't ask about it?
