Trying to decide logistics on this trip from Douglasville, Georgia to Blowing Rock. Basically I have 2 choices. Load the bike on the truck and drive to Gainesville to a friends house and ride from Gainesville, up through Clayton and US 23 to Asheville and pick up the parkway in Asheville, OR, load the bike, drive it to my Aunt's house in Gastonia, and ride it in from there....Much more risk in the first plan, but bike is running fine, and I will purchase new points and plug wires, so I SHOULD be alright (what I said last time), or play it safe and launch out of Gastonia. Bike is COMPLETELY stock with all original electronics, and running great....Any input appreciated....

the road from gastonia to blowing rock sucks as it is a 4 lane and divided in some places like an interstate but stand a better chance of getting help if needed. just saying.

Ah....you damn tourist laughing

There are a LOT of different ways to get from Gastonia to Blowing Rock....IMO a couple of them rival anything you'll find on the TSMR.

Use your imagination...better yet....try a map wink laughing

Hugs.....Pokey

I hear ya Bryan.....and DON'T look for those STRAIGHT lines....go for the twisty ones bigt

DPO.....bite the bullet and just drive the darn truck to Blowing Rock....that's NOT a big deal and will give you a little more comfort knowing your truck's close if you need it. bigt

PLENTY of people drive up/down/over. You'll never beat Barb's record anyway....and with Richrd out there second place will be tied up for a LONG time.

Drive up....get there early Thursday or Friday and get some extra riding in with the boys.

This is going to be a strange May for me this year.....Pokey

That's what I'll do then....If I can't get a couple of rooomies at the Inn, I'll stay in my tent at Grandfather Mountain....Rooms simply too expensive to swing alone....Truck has all new tires, and runs like new...

Hi Gents-I am really looking forward to attending the ride this year! I have already contacted Melissa and made arrangements for a room. DPO, I plan on sharing a room with a friend of mine from down here in Florida. However, if he backs out your more than welcome to split the room with me for the weekend.
I plan on hauling my bike in the back of my pickup. Is there an area suitable for easing the bikes out of the trucks by ramp? From previous pictures it looks like parking will be at a premium. Is there a secured parking area close by that we can leave he trucks? Thanks for any advice.

Jerry

Jerry
the parking lot has a steep entry on one side that some use to unload at. as to parking it is a little tight and not much of a place for overflow but it has not been unmanageable. also welcome to the ride.

By May I hope to have choices...

The Thunderbolt is gettin it's tailfeathers fixed. Seems the vibration has caused it to shake to pieces. The Firebird is almost sorted. The Lightning Rocket had a set back. Didn't exactly blow up as much as the compression went away. Mechanical chaos ensued (but at least the battery stayed charged!)

I'm planning on being there May 15-17th.

DPO- I would be interested in sharing a room and splitting expenses. Already contacted Melissa and have a reservation in. So far things are looking good, will have more info as the date gets closer.
Feel free to give me a PM.
