2nd or 3rd?????????????

That's the "Tom"(?) we were talking about riding to breakfast Sunday Morning (fellow standing to our far left). Who is the fellow to our right of Mr Ben?

L to R

Tom (?) Alan, Mr Mike, John French, Ken Strain, Ben Strain, (?), Mike Carter and Lannis

Alan, looking back through my records....we started signing in in 2004.

Attending that year was:

Alan
Ben and Ken Strain
Windy
Don Roe
George Ratterman
Tom Bartoli
Mr Mike
Lannis
Mike Carter
Vince and Steve Michl
Tom Lynch
Alex
Bruce and Matt Martin

If I'm not mistaken, Tom Lynch is the fellow in the photo you posted. (to our far left) He was from NY but his wife had family in TN and they would come down to visit in May. I remember him being a very nice fellow.

I think your photo is the last year John French rode with us.

Did any of Ben's family besides Ken and Peg come? Don't remember.

That was John French's last year because I see the rear end of his /2 Beemer on the right of the photo.

Okay...Richrd could be right. I'm thinking the last ride John was with us was the "split" year...and I do believe Tom Sanders was in that ride and I think Tom lost a chain on the way back to Blowing Rock? I know John was at the "split" because I asked him to lead the "split" group back to Blowing Rock. John didn't show up that next year and we didn't have one drop of rain on that ride.

I'm pretty sure John rode his Velo the first year. He could have ridden that BMW twice?

Standing, left to right:
Booth Gray (Chase Truck), Don Roe (BSA), Lannis Selz(Guzzi), Bruce Martin (BSA), Matt Martin (Kawi), Tom Lynch (Triumph), George Ratterman (Vintage Honda), Ken Strain (BSA)

Kneeling, left to right:
Alex Sohn (BSA), Alan Burgess (Triumph), Windy Eads (Norton), Mike Carter (Triumph), Tom Bartoli (Player Norton), Mike King (BSA), Ben Strain (BSA).

Not Pictured:
Steve Michl (Honda)
Vince Michl (Triumph)
Gordon Gray (Chase Truck)

From start to finish the weather was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!!!! smile

This is the 2004 ride and would have been the first ride John wasn't on and we blamed the GOOD weather on John not being there.

So.......2003 would have been the "split" year and I think the photo you posted Alan is probably 2002.

Lannis....and you think his memory is any better than ours? laughing

Last time I saw John was at the Bull City Rumble a couple years back...he has a new girlfriend and has moved out of the big house. Don Roe keeps up with him and he could ask.

BUT......John's last ride with us was the time it was pouring rain when we came out of lunch in Mountain City...I remember that well because I asked him to lead the split group back to Blowing Rock. There were more riders in that ride...may 14-16 and the split was close to 50/50. I'm "pretty" sure Tom Sanders was there and went with the group that went back to Blowing Rock....he lost a chain and had to call AAA. Good chance Richrd was there too.....that's why he knows it wasn't John's last ride.

It's been fun trying to remember all those rides/years....good memories for me. smile

Boys....I REALLY think we all need HELP!!!!!! laughing

I'm so confussed now I'm not sure when/where/who blush

The forum goes back to 2003 and our posts are still there...I've been reading over them and everybodies right and wrong laughing. Those damn 60's and 70's were rough on a lot of us...not sure what Lannis' excuse will be since he stayed straight...but I have a LOT to blame it on. laughing

According to our very own posts, 2005 was the split year. 12 riders went on and finished the ride....the other went back and were led by John French...so 2005 was John's last year. Good chance he skipped 2004 since he's not on the ride sign in sheet or the group photo.

Richrd says John was on the BMW, Windy says it was the Commando, I remember both of those bikes but don't know when he rode them.

Just a few tid bits from reading over the older posts and guessing. blush

2001 - first ride? John on his Velo

2002 - The year we all quit after lunch?...it was VERY COLD AND WET.

2003 - The year Lannis and Mr Ben took the wrong turn. Don's first ride. John rode his yellow commando.

2004 - John went to track days instead of the TSMR. Weather was perfect

2005 - The split, John's last ride with us. Alan wasn't at this one. Richrd's first. I'm pretty sure John was back on his BMW.

Sooooooooo....Alan...that photo must be 2002 the year we quit after lunch?

Glad you finally made it home Mr Ben.

Did we get the date right 2002? Would that have been your first ride?
