The bottom end will drop right in. If using the '67 top end, specifically pre-1971 rocker boxes, you will have no provision for a head steady.

I'm sure Jon missed the part about the Triumph motor going into a BSA frame.
The mounting points are not the same. Without extensive reworking, it won't fit.

I have read that all BSA oif frames in 1971 were the same for Triumph and BSA. But that
the triumphs were a narrower engine and that spacers are needed. Has anyone done this swap?

Yes, I very much did, thanks Mike !!

jesslp,

The Triumph engine WILL NOT fit into the BSA OIF frame and the mounts aren't even close, not by a long shot. The center bottom mounts are way off in relation to each other as in inch to inches...not even close. Since that is a major issue, then won't even care if the front downtube mounts will even line up.

I have both frames on hand and BSA and Triumph cases on hand to verify and have looked at this in the past and determined that it is a big NO-GO.

Ok fair enough. I just realized that one frame oif says A65L on it. My other frame
oif says T120 on it. So I have a BSA and a triumph frame. I can say just looking
at them they both look identical.

I have a 69 650 bonneville and a 66 or 67 Tr6c engine. I would like to install
the Tr6c in one of those frames since that engine is just about restored. I will
measure both frames and the mounts and see what gives.

Thanks

Jon

You are correct. The frame mounts are different on both the a65 oif 1971 frame and
the triumph 650 oif 1971 frame.

Thanks for pointing that out.

jesslp, you are welcome.

Now you will periodically see OIF BSA frames for sale that the seller state's that they are the same as Triumph frames and either engine will fit and you of course will know better.

Then, there are others who state as a fact that all Triumph and BSA OIF frames are identical and either engine will fit into either make of frame. Amazing !
