Hi everyone
New to the triumph board usually hang out on the BSA board!
I have a stripped thread on the fork bottom, where the two bolts hold axle clamp on my 1968 t120. Does anyone know the thread size/type any help much appreciated.

The threads were changing a lot at that time, I would check the thread on the bolts. 26 tpi will be cycle thread, 24tpi will be UNF. Thread gauge will tell you which or a known tpi bolt.

Tool stores sell Starrett thread gauges. Ask for one in British threads, including "Whitworth."
Owning a '68 Triumph you will be using it often.

Studs apply to 1970 only, prior to 70 they were bolts but depending on the year they were cycle or UNF.

You're thinking of the '71-on alloy sliders; pre-'71 sliders are steel; when studs were fitted to the '70 sliders, the thread into the slider was UNF so the studs are UNF at both ends.

Were they fitted for all of '70 - the parts books dated September 1969 still show bolts, only the '70 T150 3rd edition book (dated January 1970) shows studs?

Regards,

Note that for what Starrett sells for $47.00, we have for $17.00 and are a paid vendor here.

(When I bought my Starrett gauge 30 years ago, it was a lot less expensive)

Kye:

To answer your question they are 5/16" diameter and can be Recoiled to 5/16" UNF or 5/16" CEI.

For the CEI use a 97-1070 bolt.

For the UNF use the 14-0218 bolt or the 21-2014 stud and 5/16" UNF nut.

Not much help but.... Every 60's triumph I have had with the outside spring forks I have convered by adding studs and nuts instead of bolts... Its just easier....
