My original 1960 Gold Star round lever petcocks are leaking and past the lapping in/spring tension fixes.

The best I can find thus far is a brass replacement from British Only. It's listed as 1/8 X 7/16. I assume 1/8 is the ID and 7/16 the OD (but which end?).

Mine measures 3/8" OD at the tank end and 7/16" OD at the hose end.

Anyone have any experience here?

I recently received a new pair of brass repop petcocks from Autocycle Engineering in England. They look OK. I too have been 'down the road' lapping in and tensioning the spring in old petcocks. After awhile this fix will no longer work out.

I've been long tempted to drill/tap the brass tank adaptors and fit some higher flow rate US 1/4" pipe thread petcocks. Pingles? hmmm

These leaking taps have just about driven me nuts over the years. The problem started about when the lead was removed from gas and the taps started to pick up on the tapers. A while back I located a gasoline resistant grease used in the aviation industry for carbs, which I felt would make the problem go away with an annual lube. The cost was such that I procrastinated to buy what would be a multi lifetime supply,in case it didn't work, but I'm warming up to opening the wallet.

Pure soap is an excellent filler/sealant/lubricant for things gasoline.

Thanks John. That material quantity and price is more realistic. I'm going to give it a try.

I ordered the good petcocks from the UK after my originals kept weeping after the usual attempts to fix them.

Zoe, buy a 5 oz tube of EZ Turn lubricant from Aircraft Spruce for $11.85 and thank John Healey for sharing this with all of us.
