You might wonder why people like Johnny Allen used heavier than standard flywheels in LSR attempts. His was about 10 lbs heavier than standard.
About 1/4 way down the page here, you'll find why Flywheel and Valvetrain

Perhaps on an LSR bike the supposed power gain outweighs a 2-3% increase in rolling resistance. On my roadracer acceleration matters and I am pretty happy to lose both the dead weight and rotational inertia. Has anyone measured the supposed power loss or is it conjecture?

Isn't this torque related, not inertia? If it is possibly to not loose anything at top end and loose flywheel weight, that would be a much better? Wouldn't acceleration (from a light flywheel)overcome friction (tyre to tarmac)?

I don't remember the exact figure but I think my flywheel is about 6 lbs lighter than stock. It actually idles nicely even with clapped out carb slides. And it spins up like a modern bike when you blip the throttle. Hard to keep the front wheel on the ground too despite the boat anchor TLS brake.

Are the effects just because of the weight reduction in the flywheel?
