Did the Veglia speedometer with the trip meter only come on the 850 Interstate models?

We speaking green globe speedos here, unmarked ones, bluewhite NVT wiggle ones, or Domiracer type ones ?

In theory, the Mk2 850 models got Veglias on the Interstate models only. But another thread (somewhere) mentioned that some Roadsters may have had some - and some were sold as replacement spares, and after 40 odd years, anything could have happened to a particular bike you are now looking at...

hopethishelps.

Veglia instruments were introduced in early '73 (approx. Jan. '73 according to Norton Service Release N.3/27) so they would also been fitted to 850 Mk1 and '73 750(750 MkV) models.

The new "Easy read" instruments featured in this '73 750 brochure page are Veglias.

The Mk1 and Mk2 850 roadsters I had both had the green globe Smiths, as does my 850 Mk1 now.

There is a date marking or stamping somewhere on the back ??

There are quite a few versions of speedo/tacho listed in the 1973 parts list, now that we look.
Inc km/hr and police versions.
The question is - can you still buy any of them new ?

No blue and white wiggles here but does have the Norton green globe and it says Norton just above the tripmeter. Also says Made in France on the bottom of the face. This is on a very early '73 Commando VIN 30070x.

Original or not they look great. Those are identical to the ones on my bike. Is your bike an Interstate?

If it's an original German/European model then would have been supplied with a Km/H speedo.

Sadly, I don't know the complete history of the bike. It has been registered in the Netherlands since 1990. I suppose it was imported from UK before. Maybe a US import as well. In these years many british bikes have been imported from USA. My Triumph was imported from USA (Indiana) in 1990 too.

I have a Mark 2A which I purchased brand new in November 1974 in Australia Engine No. 320516. It has the Speedo and Tachometer that are both made in France. mark 2A have the air box and black cap silencers. Bike cost Australian $ 1995.
Good luck

But was it a Mk2A Interstate model? As it was the Interstate that supposedly had the Veglia (speedo with trip) instruments.
