Hi there,

Sorry if this post is confusing, I'll try to be as clear as possible.

I'm currently working through my first restoration, a barn find 1966 BSA A65T. The bores are at the manual recommended limit with +40 pistons and also have some deep pitting. I'm not aware of anyone competent or capable to re-sleeve or rebore the cylinders here in Hong Kong.

My options would be:

A) to buy a used cylinder block advertised on the internet

The internet cylinder I have my eye on is just less than 10 thou worn from standard and will need a hone. Is it ok to fit standard pistons and rings on this example?

B) to send the originals away for refurbishing.

Would you go for a +60 rebore or re-sleeve?

+060" is fine.iv seen later blocks with victor pistons (79mm)+.160 !

My 1968' has the same barrel as you have fitted and runs happily with +060" (76.5mm)

I have seen standard barrels fitted with Omega pistons at 79mm like Wak mentions making the bike 750cc

Ben,

as the others have already said, just go for a rebore.

I am also on +.060 but already have a pair of EMGO +.080 in stock for the next rebore. I am pretty confident that it will work out.

IMO, I wouldn't go over .060. The spigots get pretty thin and you're taking a chance at them cracking with the side thrust at BDC.

My A10 barrels were re sleeved leaving the spigots so thin that they cracked and a small piece fell off. I don't know if A10 barrels are thinner than A65 barrels.

I don't know what the shipping would be but Ed V (USA) will resleeve and fit you new pistons. He has the pistons..just send him the cylinder if you decide not to bore and hone to +.060.
