Hi all,

My '62 A65 has the early top yoke fitted 68-5049

I'm switching from the 'trouser leg' sleeves and headlamp to a separate shell and would like to also fit the later top yoke 68-5129 to mount the speedo.

Will this be a straightforward swap in terms of fit and steering geometry or are there other factors I need to consider?

Thanks,
Bernie

Not only do you need the top yoke, you have to change the fork tubes as well. The originals are like 3/4" shorter than the later tubes used with the flat top yoke.

You could use the short headlight sleeves from a Rocket, Lightning Rocket, or Thunderbolt Rocket. The P/N's can be found in the 64/65 dual carb parts book. Then you can use all existing fork parts

Thanks Rich - I have the short sleeve arrangement you mention on my A50 but found it hard to mount a good looking speedo bracket with the drop yoke and fork top cover in the way. If I can crack that then I guess that would be a simpler solution.

Cheers,
Bernie

Lost the 1st reply attempt GRRRRR !
You may find that Victor fork headlight ears are shorter than the later A65. I found that out the hard way. If so, you have more source possibilities. Check it out.

With the short headlight sleeves installed, you lose the top cover over the yoke. For gauge mounting, BSA used the separate gauge mounts similar to the later OIF arrangement (similar but not identical) or the later dry frame style bracket mounted off the front handlebar clamp bolts. This requires longer bolts and small spacers.

Both ways look decent.

Thanks all - looking through the boxes of bits still to be explored I found the following

This looks like it would fit on the handlebar mounts - either below with suitably modified brackets or sitting on top of the standard brackets with longer front bolts - is that what you were suggesting Rich?

Of course this bike was built as a plain Star so I'll need to find an electronic tacho to fill the left hole!

Cheers,
Bernie
