The grey colored film left on the bike from riding in the rain is corrosive, corrodes aluminum, plated fasteners, rusts steel... FAST!!
As tired as I am, four hours to do just a first step job, soap and water, polish, rub, wipe... just a reminder to do it SOONER rather than later.
Disregard if yours is an oily "survivor" bike beerchug

I was behind a Norton...

I can still smell partially combusted 10W40!

Stop picking on Willie's bike, that's the only thing that got me thru the fog.

I got home late and had to catch a plane in the morning at 0400, so I rolled the A10 into the shop and squirted it generously with WD40, although I didn't wash anything off. I'll give it a quick going over when I get home again for a few minutes in June .....

OK, I admit it, I'm addicted to brake fluid.

But I can stop any time I want.

First off, that was ginuwine strait 50 valvoline "racing" blend. Also if u look at photo #43 you will notice the fog ENTERING my left silencer, only to acquire the SLIGHT HINT of oilscent (my newly patented cologne) prior to re-disstribution to the masses. Rich, glad i could be your "beacon of hope" and provide a safety blanket (of fog). Like I said earlier, as long as I do NOT see a Dawwn dish soap commercial showing parkway wildlife being cleaned with their product, i'm not worried.Cheers, W&L

List of things that broke in 1100 miles:
Oil tank bracket. Zip tied with a rubber hose under it.
Gas cap. Remains of rubber bushing in tank! Spring fished out.
Tach quit about 100 miles from home. Can't see it in the dark anyhow.
Back spasm in Wytheville at a stoplight. Ouch. 300 miles to go. Back roads thru WV...home at 11:45.
Thanks Gordon

Hell no......THANK YOU, for everything.

I've been wanting to take a trip on my B44....and you have inspired me to do so before they send me back to work. So I'm planning on making the trip up to the OVBSAOC spring meet.

We'll compare "what broke" lists when I get back.

Wonder if the boys will let me in on the parns?????? laughing Last time I was there it was Rich, Ron, Craig and me around the fire....I don't remember laughing that much since. smile

Thank you again Bill...it's always a pleasure hanging out with you. smile

Your friend Gordon (aka The Skipper)

I did notice that several nuts/bolts which I cleaned up during resto (knowing that they probably needed re-cad plating) did indeed rust up in short order. I figured it was just the rain/humidity but bike has been wet before and I never saw that.
As for Willie's bike, it wasn't just his. There was a classic pre-EPA aroma behind EVERY other bike I was behind!
Also interesting when I was behind Willie, I noticed what somebody else pointed out was a series of oil 'rainbow' splotches on the wet road every couple hundred of feet!
