I would like to know what could I use to protect the rubber gaiters and other rubber parts in my bike. Is there a rubber conditioner that would protect the rubber from cracking and degradation? all advice appreciated.

I use silicon spray for sun roof seals on my rubber parts, also keep your bike stored in the dark as its the UV rays that age rubber.

Hi Juan,

Most "rubber" parts are usually a synthetic called neoprene. As kommando says, silicone is good - I use a cheap spray-on furniture polish, any of which tend to contain a quantity of silicone. Just watch out for the perfume in some of 'em ... grin

Hth.

Regards,

Hello Guy`s
Thank`s for the information. I just didn`t want to use a product that might not protect the gaiters.Rubber parts on my bike doesn`t seem to last as long as they used to.

A lot of pattern rubber parts do not last, ask for the long lasting version which cost a bit more.

Hello Kommando
Let me have the name and location of the guy or company that makes the rubber parts so I can do a search and see if I can locate him, having something that last would be great.

Had a look but can't find the link and can't remember any details, I do know that Andover Norton gaitors last 20 odd years but they don't make Triumph gaitors but if the same material is used they would last 20 years too.

I have been using 303 Aerospace protectant. I haven't used it long enough on gaiters to give any real testimony on effectiveness, though. I got it at a kayak store. People swear by it for polypropylene kayaks and for jeep soft tops.
