Seasons Greetings, i am finishing the restoration of my Lightning and am in need of transfers. Problem is i'm not sure what and where. I know there's the 'Made in England' on the headstock, that's easy. And correct me if i'm wrong but i think the side covers get a '650 Lightning'. But is there a piled arms on the rear fender, and where would it specifically go? And what goes on the left side of the tank opposite the fuel cap? There's probably a plethora of colors? Did i miss anything? Pictures or diagrams would be awesome. Thanks

I figured water slide. Aside from water slides and stickers, what else is there? And then there's something to do with lacquer? Anyway, my original point was placement of transfers, and what they look like. Thanks for the thoughts. I'll check with B/O

SURF MONKEY..............whats left of the,b/o is a warehouse, 8 miles from me, all his bikes are gone, he still does mail order,.He had a bunch at one time in livonia mi. My question..............Hows he going to help with placement of decals,

i`ve had many ways of placing them, thrown at me; all with great intentions, [picked out the ones that i thought, were close, [as "close" in these things; has a big variation].Grandpaul was the closest;ibelieve, and mike at walridge; only likes to deal in matchless, but he sells more. of every thing else  If you get a solid description to go by, let me know as be a great help to me, does b/o have some diagrams or something they go by, cause noone seems to!!
thanks ...surf monkey
would be a large help to me. smile smile

I believe you could get that decal with a Union Jack and a Stars and Stripes instead of the BSA banner.
Now those are pretty!

I believe that sticker with the yellow bsa flag is for a 68 canadian model.

I've got several pages from a May 1970 Cycle World magazine that has some photos of the Lightning. I can't find the originals right now; just my low-res scans, so I'm not sure if they would come in any clearer. Here's one of the side cover and what appears to be a glare on the tank:

What was supposed to be there is shown in the cattledog and all the cattledogs for the 60's & 70"s are here BSAMCC of NSW INC we put them up years ago when repos were hard to come by.
The Vintage MCC UK do a full range of decals and if you ask them for a "complete set of decals for a 1970 USA spec A 65L" you will get everything that you need and if you ask them to confirm the placement they will be happy to oblige .

The USA spec got the sticker with the USA flag.
The rest of the world got the yellow banner.
There was a plan to do a variety of different country decals but it never came off.
The 67's got the tri-colours
The 68's got the chequered flags
The 69's got the CC's & model name in line
The 70's got the CC's above the model name

My 1970 US market Lightning still has its original paint and decals. The decal marked as 25-00036 in Alan Gill's post above is correct for opposite the gas filler on the tank top.

The LIGHTNING 650 decal in Alex's post (and also shown in JD's magazine reprint) is correct for the side covers.
