The picture was published in American Racer 1940-1980 by Stephen Wright, picture by Dan Mahoney. The 1970 Triumph team, Nixon, Castro and Romero, at the old Sacramento Mile. Castro and Romero tried the converted road racers in practice but found them unsuitable. Romero rode his twin with the Routt 750 kit. The facing page has this picture of Rice and Aldana, also at Sacramento (guess who in the lower corner):

had the chance to visit with Romero, Aldana & Paul Smart. all were at The Barber Motorsports Vintage event this past weekend what a treat to chic chat with them and some other guy named Springer!!the highlite of the 3 day event was hearing Bones, Paul & Gene riding a couple of race "Triples" around the track at the lunch break. there is nothing like the sound of a open 3-1 pipe wailing triple!!!!!

It was one of the highlights to my weekend, as well.
The older triples lead the way round the circuit. Deference or reality, you be the judge.

Stepping on others doesn't make you stand tall.

Interesting, that time when both BSA triples and twins were racing against each other.

I remember that the privateer twins won over the triples regularly, if not a majority of the time. I suppose that they were more highly developed and a LITTLE bit lighter .... !

I stopped believing for a little while this morning. Journey is really going to be upset.
