Hey, thanks to all for allowing a newbie (and a bloody foreigner, at that) to get to know all of you - what a great bunch.
Thanks so much to Gordon, of course, and to Melissa and Ray. Many thanks to Windy and to Mike for two great rides, also. Wish I could roll up those roads and bring them home with me.

Ask Richrd about oil-leaks - from his modern, JAPANESE bike!

her hair was the color of a red rain suit drenched with motor oil...........
Just the highlites, since I have written so many pages about this ride in the past.

I felt very disappointed that I had committed myself to riding a bsa this year then failed to get get it reliable enough. so the switch was made back to old faithful, Dixie the white norton. all loaded and ready to go. Watching the weather, it was ugly with a capitol G! It looked undoable all the way across then Melissa told me it would be cold and wet. So one hour before the music started, the bags were transferred to the appliance. (the one with the wires for the heated jacket)

As it turned out, I stayed ahead of the bad weather and wished I was on the real bike. Until Saturday when I had to scrape the ice off the seat and everyone else was freezing.

And as always the intelligence of some of the locals is memorable. this year I stopped for the nite in Corbin Ky and went the the store for a bottle of ale. The guy behind the counter looks out at the bike and says .
"Whar yall ride in from?"
"Omaha."
"Omaha? Ahhh don know whar that's at."

Leaving out Sunday was more of the same, saddled up about 8;30 my time with odo showing 1770 for the trip. twenty for hours later, the rain is quitting and the odo says 2842 the wind is coming up.

100 miles from home I had to get off the interstate because the forty mph winds out of the south were making it too dangerous so ran back roads home from there.

This trip will be memorable for restaurant screw ups, one slice of toast with breakfast orders, 13 dollar waffles, the waffle house, the motorcycle hating blonde at a gas stop, and the best McDonalds I've ever been in.

Oh ya, also riding some more fantastic roads with Windy etal, (every year he has new roads to show off). And as every year, getting to try more great bikes, this year the pretty Duc and the unbelievable handling of Tom's featherbed.

And as I say every year, why is it the ladies all keep getting prettier every year and the rest of you just get older. If I just wanted to ride twisties, I could do it anytime, and closer to home. But the TSMR is about getting to see some the greatest people there are.

Thanks Gordon, Booth, Joe, Ray and the sweet Ms M.

Is time to plan for 2015 yet?

Just got off the phone with Windy and parts are on order for Mr Ben's transmission.

Looks like most have made it back home...still haven't heard from some but sometimes no news is good news. smile

Some highs and lows.......lows first so I can end up on a high note.

Mr Ben's truck breakdown was a low but it did turn out about a well as you could ask.

Weather was a bit cool but most of the riders were geared up for that.

I HATE having to load a fellows bike on the chase van's trailer.......not because it's any trouble but because their ride is over.

We missed some faces in the crowd....the Carters, man that was a downer. frown

Knights on Main closing down.

Picking up the ride signs Sunday I kept having a guilty feeling I was throwing Windy under the bus and bailing out on the rest of you.

Not getting to say goodbye to Mike and Bob....cubbies

Now some HIGHS

Thanks for all the kind words and gifts....you'll never know how much they mean to me.

Meeting Deiter...what a nice fellow.

To Be Continued

More highs....

Pulling up behind Ben's trailer Friday night, not knowing they were having trouble finding the motel.(it was being towed...story later) I would have had NO CLUE it was them....except for the BB.com decal and that saved the day. bigt

How the first gas stop turned out.....best/safest exit in 14 years. clap

Talking about earlier rides with Mr Mike on the ride to breakfast Sunday morning.

Having Lannis and Ms Fay on a Brit Bike

No fog or rain

Getting to see and talk to my friends again after a long winter

When Jim said (story later) "That'll give Don another reason to hate the Parkway" (you had to be there) laughing

More later..and there were PLENTY of highs this year...gota get back to work

Yea I know.. blush..I need to get back to work but one more thing real quick.

Over the past couple of weeks I've been thinking of some of the regrets I'll have about not being involved in the ride anymore and one of ones that keeps coming up is that Rich B never made the ride.. frown..I REALLY think he would have had a good time.

Take care....Gordon in NC

Gordon,

I always like reading your "highs & lows" comments...

AND speaking of The Parkway...
Over the years I've heard folks complain about that last stretch being a real "snoozer" after all the marvelous twisties...
I always thought "yeah right" BUT Sunday, I was absolutely falling asleep pretty much the entire time we were on that last run on the BRP!

Guys behind me told me later they were wondering why in the heck I kept crossing the centerline! And was going so slooooooow.

So, if people think the return leg on the BRP is a "snoozer"- I can definitively confirm that it is indeed just that!

Cheers!
Have a good day.
Tom

How about "till next time" then Gordon.....see you in PA in the fall!
Even with the troubles my Norton gave me, it was still one of the best trips yet. Biggest bummer for me was Knights being closed, but it's not like it would hurt me to miss a meal or two.

Another fantastic weekend...my fourteenth. The b50carb still leaks even after changing floats and needle but it did make the TSMR circuit w\o problem. Shutting off the fuel when it stops cured the leak and apparently the fuel consumed while riding was greater than the the flooding rate so all went well. I enjoyed chatting with everyone and meeting our new first-timers. I hope that they will return again and I hope that Richard can ride his real bike next time. Good luck to Lannis on his new ride and to our New Hampshire boys that really make an effort in getting here. And Alan needs to put together a British ride for new year....even if it is a Bantam.

Mr Mike
