According to Mick Duckworth 2 Hurricane pre-production bikes were built at Small Heath in 1971 with engine codes V75V. At least one of these pre-production bikes went to the US to guage dealer and rider reactions. The BSA board passed on putting the Hurricane into production in 1971 and either 1 or both of the V75V pre production bikes ended up at Meriden. When Production of the Hurricane started at Meriden in 1972 the first several hundred engines retained the V75V code. It is a Meriden built early production run bike.
Bear in mind that the Hurricane engine is simply a 5-speed Rocket 3; those built in the '72 season were coded 'A75V'; the Hurricane was known within BSA and Triumph as the "Vetter A75", hence the first 'V'.
