So I NEVER play the lottery....probably should....at least a couple of bucks a month. I'm just not a gambler.

The drawing is tomorrow evening and the kitty is up to about 500 MILLION dollars!! That'd buy ALOT of britbike stuff!

Think I'm gonna plop down $20 bucks and see what happens! beerchug

If people would take the money they spend on lottery tickets and consistently buy something to invest in (pick one - mutual funds, stock, gold, doesn't matter), they'd end up being wealthy when they got older.

Instead, they stay broke, except for the guy who wins, who 90% of the time throws it all away and ends up broker than when he won.

Hard to even feel sorry for them.

I only play if it's over $300 million.

You guys can come stay at my Motorcycle Resort after I win.

If I won that much money right off I would do something abandoned and frivolous like buy a full tank of gas for my truck. Then if there was any money left over I would invest it.

Too late-I bought the winning ticket on my lunch break today. I'll be glad to give you all a beer when I win though, as I plan to buy my own brewery laugh

normally, I don't play, I have other things to put the money on, however, when it gets this high I'm not afraid of putting a single buck into it just for sh*ts and giggles. I burn more money than that on getting an occasionl soda pop at work. Yes I know, it won't happen, but it would be fun to win... at least for a little while until everyone I don't know starts to beg for hand outs. Still the thought of being able to go to every bike event that I wanted to at any time would definately help my grumpy ol' fart mentality!

odds are something like 100 million to one....
but I bought several tix, at 4 different places, and Cynthia bought 10 tix, at two different places. And just fer kicks, I bought three PowerBall tix at a possible 60 million- mere chump change.

If'n ya doesn't play, ya DEFINITELY doesn't win. As I said earlier, if we win y'all can pop down anytime to our villa in Costa Rica. If we don't win, come stay with us Pennsylvania anyway! laughing

Good luck everyone! beerchug

Fay and I had a pizza, two salads, and two glasses of wine using the money we didn't spend on lotto tickets.

What did you guys who DID buy tickets get? Bet it wasn't as tasty as ours!

I'm in Maryland, but not near the now famous 7-11 where the winner was sold.

I've had a subscription ticket for a number of years which occassionaly spits out a few dollars. My thinking is that if lightning is going to strike, there is no harm is putting up a lightning rod. Costs me a $104 per year.

Hasn't happened yet so I spent the weekend doing tax returns and am off to the regular job tomorrow.

A bazillion to one odds against winning, still better than the odds of making anything like that kind of money by working for it.
Nevertheless, I do not play.

Nay, not so ... there are FAR more people that have made millions of dollars by working for it than have ever got "something for nothing" with a lotto ticket.

Before the days of pay-at-the-pump, I used to stop in a little store on the way home from work to buy gas. While waiting to pay on a Friday or a payday, I'd be standing in line behind people that had gotten out of pulpwood trucks and construction vehicles - sweaty, dirty, hard-working people who didn't have a lot of money to throw around, and who did real work for the money they got.

And I'd watch, every week, as they'd throw $20 or $40 or $60 across the counter for a batch of worthless lotto tickets. EVERY WEEK.

And I've thought since then, if those guys would take that $80 or $160 or $240 they spend EVERY MONTH on the lotto and would have put it in a decent investment and let it ride, they'd NOW have anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000, not borrowed, not wished for, but THEIRS to do with what they want to do.

I know it's true because it's the way I did things. It pains me to watch people chuck their money away like that, and then complain about how they can never get ahead and how hard the world is and, ESPECIALLY, complain about all these Rich People who have somehow stolen the money THEY should have ....

Lifestyle choices, folks. Call it "moralizing" if you want, but it's a fact. Sometimes some luck (and you make some of your own of that), sometimes health, but 90% choices .....
