Beautiful scenery. When are we going to get a video like that from Alex?

That video was shot here in Grand Junction Colo a few weeks ago they call that "skinny ridge " fun place to ride

OK, I admit it, I'm addicted to brake fluid.

But I can stop any time I want.

You're not supposed to question anything you see on the web, Lannis. It's all real.
Notice how the helmet doesn't bob and weave with the bike?

When given the choice between two evils I picked the one I haven't tried before

Well, you're SUPPOSED to think that's because it's a helmet-cam and so the camera will always be fixed relative to the helmet ... but the helmet wouldn't be fixed relative to the bike, now would it?

And where's the snow and grit being flung out in front of the bike from the front knobby?

I HAVE ridden dirt bikes before, I didn't just fall off the turnip wagon into town last week .... !

I don't think it's faked. Reading through the posted comments attached to the YouTube clip it appears that the video was lifted from 87mcmahan87. When you look at this guys other videos (87mcmahan87) you can see he has done similar stuff before.
The reason it looks so unbelievably impressive is the height above the ground (helmet cam/rider on the pegs) and the Fisheye lens - the mountain sides look steeper and the track narrower.

If you look at Alex's post below this one using the same Camera (and Lens?) (Riding MX on a Vintage Britbike) you'll see the same distortion taking place.

Be interesting to hear Alex's view on how much narrower the Camera made that MX track look.

My Tuppence worth.

Tom

It certainly does remind me of something ... "Kayfabe" is a Japanese term which means "Suspension of Disbelief".

It's what makes watching professional wrestling fun for folks. When watching it, the fans 'pretend' it is real, and that lets them 'get into it' and have a good time.

Good clean fun, no reason we can't do it when we want to!

Lannis,

I've always had the greatest respect for you and your postings, but if you're now saying Professional Wrestling aint the real deal, then that's it. You've lost all credibility in my eyes. laughing

Haahaa...that vid made me clich a couple of times, but yea, it could be that the wide angle lens makes it look a little spookier, but those dropoffs on either side look VERY real to me. I'm gonna guess that once you get on those, you're not gonna stop for a while. Not sure I could stomach THAT.

As fer it seeming fake: The camera is rigidly mounted to the helmet, there will be no relative motion between the cam and helmet and the helmet will seem stationary. Duh. The tires looking like they're not moving is, I a combination of the camera's short shutter time in bright light and aliasing. If I can ever figure out how to upload my trail video after my front mudguard came off, I could show you how it makes dirt and spray look stationary in the air...

there's been a lot of discussion about this video elsewhere on the web. your spin on the conditions of the shoot seem to make sense to me, and several other folks have said similar things relating to the angles, timing etc. IMO it's probably actual footage of a ride across the ridge...
