Boomer: This is the alignment jig built by an engineer pal. It is of fairly heavy steel plate with some pass through holes and at the front threaded holes for bolts.

We did see a few 350 GS machines but not very many.

For this frame I was just straightening it out to line up the holes.

This is the 58 frame with a new front lower front section with inner sleeves at the joint waiting to be welded.

I would think and remember that most Goldie guys wanted all the power of the 500. It might also matter that England had more 350 class events in those years than we here in the colonies did? Just a thought.....Cheers, Wilf.

Gordo, I missed this thread first time around, glad to see the interest in the Clippers.
On the other hand, this has greatly diminished my chances of ending up with Boomers bike, now he'll never let it go! frown
Folks, these are old and slow and not Gold Stars...

I'd like to get some more info on the center mount oiltank platform, could you supply me with the dimensions of the material used for the flat and round pieces? I could guess, but would rather fabricate one from the correct stock.

Another thing Gordo, you mention getting yours from San Francisco, was that the SF Bay area or the City itself?
There was this old guy on the East Bay, San Leandro I think, that lived in a warehouse with his bikes.
I visited with him a few times back in the 90s... and should have bought his tank shift BSA Sloper!

Thanks again for the info... maybe someday I'll be a Clipper guy.
Here's the reason why I've always wanted one. (Don Morley Classic Motorcycles - BSA pgs.66&67)

Don,Don, Don,

Apparently I have left you in the lurch again. If you ever make it up to the Willamette Valley in Orygun I could maybe let you sit on the "Dirt Bike". Just don't break the dried out Petty plastic rear fender when you slide off backwards with your infamous rear dismount!

Well Boomer, I'll consider that an invitation.. I need to visit Astoria sometime soon anyway.
Hey - I'll bring a spare fender, but most of the time I just fall over sideways or hold on and let it loop on top of me!

Don: the material is about .075 inches thick. The pin through the two hinge like loops would be about 0.160 inches in diam.

I do not remember (15 years ago ) the exact location of the lad in San Fran. He may have been living in the storage building. It was a drive down/ overnight/ find wharehouse/ pick up and drive back. A nice 40 hour round trip of 3300 kms. My wife thought it was going to be a vacation trip but I think she was mislead a bit. If I find a record of the transaction I will let you know.

Let me know if you need more info on the platform.

Glad I asked, the material is lighter than I thought.
So the flat stock is 12 to 13 ga. or 1/16" to 5/64" thick?
All pieces, platform and brackets?

On the tubing stock - the pin OD or hinge tube ID is 5/32"?

Thanks, and let me know if my math is wrong..

Don: your math seems ok. For the inside of the loop that is the size of a rod that fit through nicely, original could have been a 5/32 or 11/64, at this point it is hard to tell as I do not have the original hinge rod.

I will have to get back to you next week on the bottom brackets as they might be of a heavier stock.
