I need a 0-240mph chronometric speedo and a 0-10,000 chronometric tacho. Repairable or restored/working. They have to be Classic Smiths and 80mm as fitted to many British bikes in the 60s. I have searched far and wide but keep drawing a blank.

They are for a racecar (not a bike *blush*) -- 1966 XJ13 project Building The Legend

Can anyone please help?

Thanks gentlemen - and "no" you haven't turned me off the idea (just don't tell my wife how much they cost ....)

I've already tried Nisonger Instruments but drew a blank. The search continues!

Good folks who do some pretty special work with classic racecar and roadcar restorers.

The youmg bloke races a nice Cooper S so you should relate well.

Tiger - you are a hero! Rodger Howard of Howard Instruments has come up trumps. I can probably get all my instruments from him including one of the few original 240mph chrono speedos.

Thanks to all who helped in my search - it is appreciated smile

I applaud your commitment !I have been trying to gather parts to restore a Royal Enfield /Indian Chief to original , got the forks and bezel together then discovered the speedo , new repro , is gonna set me back more than a grand ....fenders are made of unobtanium, at any price , suddenly I'm thinking "BOBBER"!!

Just whining-BONZO

Before you go and throw silly money at the project, why don't you have a chat with a chronometric instument restorer in the UK like David Woods? I am willing to bet that if he can't provide the clock faces himself, he'll know someone who can. The rest he could do in house.

BTW, your pics need resizing; they make the text too wide to read. Sorry to be picky.

Hi Mike. I believe I have now found a source for all my dials. I did try a whole load of restorers but they all wanted me to supply a unit they could restore - I don't have one and I need to buy one outright. Thanks for the pointer anyway smile

Yes, they don't like giving out stock! But they will convert anything to anything within reason. Want a tacho? Supply them with a speedo - no problemo! To get your bargaining counter, buy any chrono via small ads in bike mags)! It's not the shell, bezel, glass or face that are the problem; they are all sourced new. It's the fiddly internals that are rare. Trouble is there's at least one guy buying them up for seemingly attractive money. You may have seen ads in OBM and club magazines. Quite astute, commercially. I hope that that sort of approach does not eventually result in silly prices.

Good luck!
