Well I was going to leave today (Tuesday) for Iron horse Motorcycle Lodge. But a friend twisted his foot rather badly while maneuvering his R90 on a sloped driveway and I spent the whole afternoon getting him and his bike home. Plus there is #$%^& Low Pressure System centered over the entire TSMR riding area which is causing the weather to move back wards. (I blame algore.) My heart is not in an evening ride into North Georgia. So I will pack tonight and leave before the rush hour traffic tomorrow for the Cherahala Skyway and the Iron Horse Lodge.

Sorry Windy -- I'm not going to make Switchback this year.

Tomorrow will be the Cherahala and the Dragon. Then Thursday I'm doing a little bimble up the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Grandfather Campground (which seems to be on the wrong side of a ridge line from Blowing Rock) to meet up with DPO for the night. Then Friday AM to the Blowing Rock Inn in the morning followed by an afternoon ride TBA or I might just pull out the camp chair in the parking lot, pop the top on a cold one, and wait for Greg and Cass to get Inn.

Hopefully the low will have lifted into at least Virginia by the time I get to Blowing Rock.

If anybody wants to ride with during the next few days, my cell is 404-791-0704. I'm riding the *JRG OIF Thunderbolt with the faded Givi Panniers and Top case.

At this point I'm thinking I might pull my winter gear back out...(were are my Gerbings....)

C'ya in Blowing Rock -- Rain or Shine!

*JRG - Jaguar Racing Green

YUCK! Here it is a spring afternoon in May, and it's 43 degrees and raining in Blowing Rock!

If we have to suffer, we have to suffer. It makes the hot shower and then the dry clothes on the porch in the evening feel ALL the better!

Lannis

I stopped believing for a little while this morning. Journey is really going to be upset.

Weekend weather for the Blowing Rock area looks good, Bill. I hope your ride goes well, it should be a blast. Cass and I will try to leave before 0900 Friday, and arrive around 2pm. We are borrowing a trailer from Cass's brother, and making the 5 hour journey in air conditioned comfort, listening to good music, sipping Big Gulps, and nibbling on Slim Jims. It'll be just like the road trips we used to make to FLA in the 70's. Looking forward to meeting up. Greg

Lookin' forward to seeing you (and Fay?) again and meeting the rest of the gang. Hopefully the rest of the Georgia crowd will make it. They are good folks one and all. This time I have two spare headlamp bulbs!!!! Frogg Toggs at the ready...

Wait till you see Atlanta Bonnie's bike. I don't know which one (Triumph/BSA) he is bringing but either way it will be flawless.

Bruce is bringing his "beater" Triumph which looks better than my 6T. He called last night and said he was polishing the cases. I just sort of rolled my eyes. I think it's called the "beater" because it's only got a $600 paint job and besides, one of the gauge lamp bulbs is not original. laughing

As a first-time attendee I guess we'll need to have a TSA-style luggage check to make sure he's not packing any contraband... like dead stuffed cats.

We're leaving bright and early Thursday morning from Atlanta in my PUT using the scenic route through Sylva and BRP. We'll see you guys about 4PM. I've already given Bruce fair warning that once on the BRP, we may have to stop the truck and off load a bike.

Cheers! bigt

One of the more obscure passages from MacBeth maybe?

I'll be headed out bright and early tomorrow morning. Not sure if we'll take an overnight rest stop or drive right through. Wish NH wasn't so far from everywher but Canada.

Hey, just 'cause you've starting this thing of riding people's daughters on the back of your bike doesn't mean you're going to get MINE on there!

Besides, she wants to ride the Ride this year, so I'm bringing the big trail bike, complete with electric jacket wiring ....

The Thunderbolt is safely ensconced at the Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge . I left a bar end weight somewheres back in Tennesee and i had to tighten up the kick start lever and the LH pannier. Did about 10 miles on the Cherahala Skyway in the fog. Tent is set up next to the creek. This is paradise. Baby back ribs on the menu tonight and a homecooked breakfast tomorrow. Not of drop of you know what in sight.

Time for a little bimble down the Tail of the Dragon whilst the beers cool under a rock in the creek.

(yee of haw)

There are a bunch of folks from New Jersy and Pensilvania down here today. Happy that winter is over but miffed over three days in rain suits!!!!

(no BSA's were harmed in the making of this message)

Man O man I am so jazzed. The OIF Thunderbolt is rock steady when set in the curves but handles quick enough to make it really fun switching back and forth between quick turns. But believe it or not it is fantastic on NC28 between Deal's gap and NC143. Never was there a better designed piece of asphalt. All the curves are nice open sweepers of a constant radius. Who ever designed and built the road should teach everybody else how to do it.

287 miles behind the bars today with more to follow tomorrow. I can hardly wait for the sun to come around again.

Hey....you ain't got no feelings. shocked How else could you ride 1200+ miles on your Norton...just to ride 200 more miles then ride home again???? laughing

First sign went up around 9am this morning and the rest are done.

I'm very dissapointed in the road conditions this year. I'm having to drop the "goat path" all together frown and you don't know how hard that is for me. No where else in the area can you (in less than 100') see three levels of motorcycles stacked over each other. Be in the right spot and you see two motorcycles (the top and bottom) going in the same direction and the middle motorcycle going in the opposite direction.

We've had two very hard winters and they have had their toll on the roads....combine that with the heavy rains the past few days and it's a mess....doable but not 100%.

So that might make you feel a little better Rich?????

See the rest of you tomorrow....for a little riding and Dinner.

Gordon

Can you do anything about the vanloads of rafting enthusiasts that we always seem to wind up behind in Virginia?
MY good news is that instead of having to work most of tomorrow, I can do a quick driveby and then get my heiny on the road. This is much needed.....

Manana, Senors!

I think most of those cars are the Trail Days people, where 20,000 people show up in Damascus for a parade and a ride on the old railroad trail ... It used to be a pain, but now it's almost a tradition! I'd be disappointed if we DIDN'T have to weave our way through a huge crowd of people throwing water balloons and waving cotton candy .... !

Now that college graduation deal, we can do without THAT!

Lannis

It might make Richrd feel better, but I'll betcha it'll get ME and Fay so lost we won't make it to dinner Saturday!! After 10 years, I JUST ABOUT remembered all the turns and made it around without turning it into the 4 state ride for once ...

Just kidding. It'll be an "adventure" .... !
