I'm getting ready to paint the frame on my 66 Hornet. I just noticed the tab on the front of the bike (right side) is bent out. The one on my 67 Hornet is pointing down. I attached a paper clip to the tab.

Thanks for the reply. I probably should have said ......which way does it go? On my 64 and 65 Spitfirehornet frames there isn't a tab. So on the 66 frame and later is it suppose to go down?

The right side tab should be in the same position as the left side. It is there to protect the wire connections on the back of the switch on bikes other than the Hornet and Wasp. It restricts easy access when changing out the switch. Almost ever A65/A50 I have had to deal with has it bent out by some previous owner. Tap it back down nicely for that original look.

Leo: This has been bothering me because it seems so familiar. Until I rechecked this thread, I was thinking it was your 67 with the tab pointing out. Anyway, today I had a chance to look at my bikes. My 67 Hornet, the tab is sticking out just like in your pic. It does not look like some hillbilly bent it out either- looking at the paint it seems like frame was painted with that tab sticking out horizontal. My 66 Hornet is an A50 frame, doesn't have that tab at all. Checked some other frames, a 69FB, 68LB, 66S.....these have the tab pointing down, but almost looks like they might have been bent down after frame was painted. Gonna look at em again when I have more time.

I concur, but getting to the rear steering stop plate bolt and nut is a rear bear, so I assume some nimrods say "WTF" and just bend the tab up out of the way.
