Anyone have a line on where I can get pre war Royal Enfield parts? I have a 1934 model A that is coming up on needing a little this and that.
Thanks,
Nick

I would inquire at Hitchcocks ,if they don't have it they might point you in the right direction...

You could try Keith Benton in Wales. When I had my 34 Model C he came up with some odd stuff for the old thumper.
http://www.britishroyalenfieldspares.co.uk/index.html

Also, It might be worthwhile to join the REOC and post a list of needs in the wanted ads.

Good luck.

Cheers, I will attack those links soon.
I just recently came into ownership of this bike. I am more of a pre unit/ unit Triumph guy, and decided that I should jump on this for a new challenge.

George, remember the one that Mark Carswell brought to the Royal Enfield Rally in Pa. last summer? I think about the same year too.

Thanks for your concern, George, I've been fortunate, its ok here in Brisbane, and also up in Cooktown (on Cape York) where I live.I'm a bit new to Royal Enfields, but I've had an old frame for some years (#7816) its very similar to "Piston Floats" by the photos (a bit hard to see, hence my request for some more photos) but it has the "blade" type girder forks and the "lifting handles" above the rear mudguard. I just picked up a 350cc engine at a swap meet near brisbane last week, on the left hand drive side it has the following numbers and letters:- WD/C C/7182(forward) 15586 (top centre) and 7643 (below the magneto bracket). The gearbox is labeled "Enfield" and RM373, I 'think' it has two gears and neutral. a couple of queries, 1. is the frame a "Lightweight"? 2. what year? 3. will the 350cc engine fit in? I'm off back up to Cootown on Sunday (about 2300klm/1400miles) so i wont get back on line for a few days! I've only got 1 Enfield (at present) I have a Mod 7 Norton Dommie (1949) a 1964 Norton Dommie 650SS and a 1979 Yamaha XS1100...anyway met the Brisbane R.E mob on Wednesday, seem a bloody good lot blokes... no doubt I'll be meeting more!! Cheers, Dick Randolph

Dear PistonFloat, further to my scrambled and dissjointed note of the other day, can I ask you a couple of questions? 1. what is the year, model, cc, etc of your bike in the photo and 2. can you plase put up some more of the same, I'm trying to identify my frame #7816, before I go and buy any more bits, that may be wrong-uns. Thanks Dick Randolph

The older the Enfield the less I know and I don't know much to begin with. Your motor is from wartime hence WD for War Department. I do know that there are at least 2 types of bolt up rigid frames one being somewhat lighter that the other. Several years ago I bought a bunch of stuff in Ohio and part of the package were 2 frames. The one is for a G model OHV but the lighter one is I think is from about 1936 or so as it came with a tank with central dashboard and based on the knee pads was from about that year. As to interchangeability of motors that's a good question. I got 3 sets of rear engine plates with the "stuff" and none matched my 47 G model. Then again the new set I bought from Hitchcocks are not exactly correct either.
I'm guessing if you hook up with some of the Enfield guys from down under you'll soon get a handle on what's what.
I have a Disc with lots of old factory photos I'll look through them and see if I can find anything helpful. It may be a while as there are over 1000 on there. See if any of the Enfield guys have Gordon May's book " By Miles the Best. That has year by year photos back to at least the 30's.
And as always post some pictures if you get time.

Dear Mr. Randolph,
I am very new to old Enfield’s as well. This is the best that I could decipher, seeing how the guy that I bought it from had absolutely no idea what it was to begin with. It is a 1934 Royal Enfield Model A with a 225cc two stroke motor; I am not 100% though. I am currently in the process of cleaning it up for a photo shoot with some girls this weekend and I can post up those/more pictures early next week.

Bloody hell!!! how do I get onto this "photo-shoot" as well? Sounds like a bit of fun! Anyway, I'll keep in touch and just lay it by ear, thers a bloke in Belgium, whom I dealth with about 4 years ago (when I first got the frame) who seemed to know a lot about Royal Enfields, he 'was' setting up some kind of register, when I get back to Cooktown and my main computer i will look up his correspondence and get back to you all. Cheers
Dick R

George, Thanks for puting up those photos, my frame (the number is #7186 by the way, only 4 numbers away from the engine I just found!!) has the same 'blade' style front forks BUT it has just one fairly heavy tubular front down tube, from Headstock to the engine mounting 'U' bracket. And a pair of pretty solid 'lifting' handles over the back mudguard. I'll whack a couple of photos of the frame, engine and gearbox on this site when I work out how to do it! Thanks Dick R

If you know anyone who gets Real Classic magazine this month's issue has an article on rebuilding a 36 Model S sloper. Very cool.
