Rob mate. I think the info I have is all chassis, with drawings diagrams etc, not sure about bodies but I will have a look & get back to you later.
Having the eye operated on tomorrow so will be out of action for a few weeks [riding wise] but should be o.k. for general maintainance after a couple of days with a bit of luck.

Regards John.

i have made little progress so far on the m21 i have removed the primary drive found the rear casing of the primary cover broken from the engine and no spacers on the foot rest bar. so i found a replacement on eBay. i cleand the carb with acid to remove many years of s**t and the carb seems to be in good nick shocked so thats money saved laugh i need to get on i want it on the road by the end of the year.
i just have too many things to do like i got to now strip another bmc3.5diesel engine for a block coz the one im rebulding has a fatal crack, wish i never took that job on.

Looks like your getting on pretty good there Rob, I only wish I could do a bit to my old girls but I'm restricted at the moment with having the eye done, can't drive stoop or lift anything heavy, I'm sure it will be o,k, pretty soon, then I'll have a look for those books for you.
Keep plodding mate you'll get there.

Regards John

well it was called just aluminium cleaner i bought from machine mart it was a mixture of acids and degreaseants wich was water soluble so i would mix up a 10% mixture and put all the bits in for 10mins and scrub a little with a touth brush.
it gives of a strong smell of sulphur dioxide
but good results

Hey Shaun.
I hope you realise that any bikes coming into the U.K. have to be surgically cleaned to prevent the spread of that terrible lurgey, It's a cross between Dutch elm disease & swine flu.
Its called "wood up yer piggin flu" mate. any imports are not allowed anywhere near The Cock Inn, Luddesdown.
Safe journey home mate.

Reargards John.

got in the ole garage today first needed to move the bmc engine, put the salvaged work top on my bench, sort out all the bits for the other bmc engine, then i can look at the m21 engine. so garage now tidy i can start work on the m21 agen.

i like to make a clean tidy enviroment when doing engines.

with the head off i could see a great deal of wear in the bore and piston i could move it about in many directions and i could see the piston rings from the top. and it appers to be a linered barrel .

lets have the ole barrel off and look at that piston , the little end is worn and lose in the conrod an i will have to have a bush made to sute.

as you can see the crown of the piston is dammaged it could be due to a build up at the top of the liner or is the conrod bent? i will get the machineist to check the conrod when making a new bush for it, and aliginment.

now my gougous Jenny is telling me to go for a ride while the sun is out marvolous idea i will , so i pushed out the ole b31 and rode round to my mate kim and had a yarn bout the m21 . next to strip the botom end

Looks like you had a good day there Rob! I think that those later M21 barrels were cast then lined as well. The true indication of a well used and worn barrel is by looking at the fins around the exhaust port. Often they are rusted to a very thin thickness but yours looks fine.

got out on me b31 this morn had a thrash up the city made some row whith the fantastic golie sounding b31. bought me a new vice then trashed up to the food wagon on oak street and had a butiefull bacon bap and a nater with all that were ther bout the ole b31 i love it when people are intrested.

lets get that botom end strip.

ow no is that a crack i see yep its cracked can you see it i better find someone who can weld aloy.

ow no agen the top timing plate piller is broken and no sign of the missing pice it must have been put together like it mad but i think i can fix this if i can get it in my mill i can face it of to under the damage and re drill and tap and then make a spacer .

got the crank out

all apart except i dont have a mag pinion puller ther is alot of wear in the mag base when i get it off i will show ya all. the bearing housings are in good condition and the inside of thre cases are like new shame it aint like that in the timing housing

Good pictures and a good story, me and my M21 are sitting here together reading it with interest, he twinges every time he sees a busted or melted piece on his cousin there.

He says that the brakes are in good shape because its been ridden around with the engine half knackered and couldn't go fast enough to NEED any brakes .... shocked laugh

Lannis

OK, I admit it, I'm addicted to brake fluid.

But I can stop any time I want.

Today i picked up the crankcases not as good as i thought need some repairs but for 30 squid not to bad and i can sell the timing cover i dont need.

i decided to use my original crankcases and get them repaired as required.

my quest for a Lucas M01L mag dyno body was no use i searched throug piles and piles of mags at our local bike museum but no luck.

anyone im looking for a M01L Lucas mag body or compleet mag.

anyways Yew keep'a'troshin
