OK just quick one, its morning here in Nelson, the Sun's in the sky and we're off for mussels
BOTH bikes made it to Farewel Spit, a total ride of over two HUNDRED miles But that means we've done the whole South island, we're making our way back to Christchurch, to fly out on the 4th March. So a night in Kiakora then 2 nights in Chch.
BLIMEY, what an adventure! And I now know how to be a millionare, just need to get a second hand tea bag
Worry NOTY Lad's and Lasses, y'all will get the whole nine yards once we've got to a computer that don't ask for money every 30 seconds, and I'm guessing you'll be fed up with all our tales. We've got enough of them to last a life time, BUT a warning...
IF, and that's a big if, y'all are thinking of coming over, y'all need some firming up pills, that Speights Ale clears you out something rotten.
NEW ZEALAND, the place motorcycle tyres were made for
Here we are in Christchurch again, left Kaikoura this morning after a night there. Saw about a million seals, then about 2 million dolphins! BLIMEY it's like Disney World here only its for REAL
That Kaikoura place was quite good and at long last we found a pub that stays open longer than 21.00, seems New Zealand closes after 9.00pm at night? A nice seaside town with some good bars and music. Only down side was the backpackers place we kipped in, a garden shed with beds, NONE of us slept well, the toilets were filthy, and so to were the showers. Still not bad for over a month on the road, was it? Having only ONE place to moan about.
Well the bikes did great, over 2000 miles and only silly problems to deal with, NEVER let it be said that you can't tour on old British motorcycles. If you think you can't you, my friend, is an idiot
THe bike will go in the container on the morrow, tonight we're off to that pub that Kev told us about, the Twisted Hop. Thanks for that Kev it BRILLIANT, thanks to to NZKev for putting us right
Y'all will find the whole nine yards on here as soon as I get over the jet lag, and I'm not putting $2 in a box every two minutes
Right that's me, I'll see y'all on here soon. Just got to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the BSAOC NZ lot, they are the best.
Finally, Grandpa is now on grade 2 of his English course, so well done lad. I hope you remember that you HAVE a Pony, and NOT take a Pony
"we found a pub that stays open longer than 21.00, seems New Zealand closes after 9.00pm at night? "
OK. You boys must really be winding us Kiwis up !!!
Really glad you had a great time here but "New Zealand closes after 9.00pm at night" ?????.
I think you have mostly been touring the small towns on the back roads of the South Island. This is sort of like the West Coast of Scotland on a Sunday (or Lancaster after 10 pm on the way home from the Isle of Mann.)
I havn't been south for a while but I can definitely assure you you can find a pub/bar open in Wellington at 4:30 am if you really want one.
Hope you had a really great time here :-)

Don't worry about them John.... they are trying to travel on tuppence a day. Economical bikes... too miserable to use a car. Cheap backpackers.... read CHEAP. Or 3 or 4 to a room in a cabin at a camping ground. Drinking cheap beer.. read SPEIGHTS, and then complaining. The only thing they speak highly of are the mussels, which they pay about 20pence each for... and the weather. Sunshine here is free.
Oh yes.. the 9pm thing
either they need an excuse to get out of the bar to save some dosh, OR, the bar manager has their number..
We both know you can walk out of many bars here at dawn.
I am a starter for tonight Shaun, so is Tappet. Ring him on his mobile 0211515011 or my place 960 0809. Tappet said something about paying for the drinks one night during the rally, I think he wants the ledger balanced. (Don't remind him but it was THAT night ! )
Can you manage to see Dave, I think Wade mentioned that. I live nearby.
Tappet lad, glad to see you're not dead BLIMEY you can REALLY put that Whisky away, never seen owt like it. Hope you make it around the World lad, and it was a pleasure to help you out. Bit of a liberty jumping in on our helicopter ride So that's a pint you owe me.
As for places closing at 9.00pm, this is NOT a wind up, everywhere and I MEAN Everywhere we've been, the4 pubs are empty by 9 ? At 8.30 they're heaving, but as soon as 9 comes along, they get empty?? BLIMEY this is HILL BILLY country, even seen some Banjo players Best we leave, me Bum has been suffering enough with that Speights, don't want anymore trouble down there! I KNOW what Split Ring's been going through
More Mussels in Christchurch with Marty Sabba and his wife Annie. Dave Macdonald (with the white goatee) was our gracious host between events. Note - My rally beard is in full swing. Things grow fast in that hot sun!
OK Shaun- Its your round while I edit more photos and video.
By the way. I did not bury the "bad christmas ties" in the glacier as planned. We decided that the ties were so terrible and got such a reaction at the dinner dance that I will wear them at every rally now
