Hi all,
Thanks to Mike and Dave Carter I was able to take the newly restored 650SS out on the road today. Motor runs great and sounds real good. Dave and I did about 8 miles. We found a couple of oil leaks and addressed those in short order. More sorting next weekend.

Thats a nice looking machine.

I see you have a twin leading shoe brake on it.

In my experience if you use the linings sold by Vintage Brakes and follow their set up recomendations these brakes can be reasonably good (at least the first two times you use them in anger) They will fade if used again and again but they are not too bad for the road.

The serial number indicates 1962 is about right for manufacture date. It was a rolling basket case sans fenders, number plate, seat and other stuff when I picked it up. The headlight bucket is not correct for a '62. I'd love to find the correct bucket is someone has one to part with.

Tom is being modest as he put this bike together engine and all, My Brother made and adjusted some parts and I looked over his shoulder with the engine and wiring and setting up the mag but this is all Tom and a great looking bike it is, was proud to have it grace the shop..Good job Tom

Ben,
I don't assume to know you're level of mechanical experience. I've built a couple of commandos and they weren't too bad. The Dominator is a different beast. Just about everything abou the Dominator is more difficult than the Commando. Check the fit of any part you buy from Norvil. Make friends with your local machine shop.
I have a new in box seat for the slimline featherbed for sale.

Tom,
Don't leave it unattended in the parking lot. You just might find a well used Commando with a thank you note in its place.

Very pretty, how do you find it rides in comparison to a Commando? a few more miles needed to really get the feel of it.

I have only put about 20 miles on it so far. The motor is quite smooth and acceleration good. Naturally, not as much torque as a commando. I have not as yet got into the twisties to experience the famed featherbed handling.

Dont think you will be dissapointed, I rode a Dunstall 650 in the late 1960's it had been timed at 131mph! but not with me on it! think I did 80 in second, then had to shut off or go thro a brick wall.It was enough for me.
