That does sound like fun...wish I had some snow toys. Got some cross country skies....been playing around on them but really nothing else. Like I've said before...we're just not set up for this.

Snow and Ice???? Betcha Morgan is just rolling his eyes....;)

BTW...I see that Lannis checked in....must still have power.

George...I'm not sure there is a fast growing rhododendron...the ones I've planted and nursed have been growing for 15-18 years and are still under 5'. They are hard to figure out....sometimes you see them out in full sun doing just fine...but I have no luck at that...all mine are tucked under pines where they love the same type of soil.

Ya never know.....take care.....GG in NC

Well I took a break from the computer and shoveled for an hour and a half. Darnnnnn that wet stuff is heavy.

If everyone is doing this it's going to be a "buff" crowd at the 3 state.

Gordon/Group,

Well I hope your day has gone better than mine. Lost power for a couple of hours (back on at the moment). Then a big tree falls about 10 feet up the street from my drive (I live on a dead end street so I'm blocked in).

Country folks are great. Within 10 minutes we had about 15 people there with chain saws/pickup trucks and a tractor. Less than 1/2 hour we had fire wood and a clean street.

Shortly after that a firetruck drove down the street - have no idea what that was about.

Well could have been a lot worse.

Alan, we're good, thanks for asking.

It's just a mess here....and with the cold rain all day and the temps dropping it's not going to get better any time soon.

Still can't figure out why the rain didn't get rid of the snow?

But like you said....it could have been worst.

well i have a driveway to shovel for the first time in 30 years.
lived out in the country where i just had to dig out the wood pile and the dogs...and beat a path to the door from the truck...
tho at times the lane would drift shut and then we'd ski back and forth from house to truck...

last couple years of in-town living in an apartment helped spoil me too. we were out shoveling the new driveway two nights ago in just qa couple inches of snow. fell dead on my FACE (new drive is STEEP) and damn near busted my nose! looks like somebody whacked me with a shovel...when i hit it was face first.
THAT'S gonna leave a mark.

we have called a guy who has always plowed that drivew for the old folks who used to live here...
no more shoveling!

still dumping pure wet snow here...
tomorrow were are on hold for work til noon. if we don't go in at noon, we will hold and try to work at four. if we STILL don't go in at four, we work Sunday....damn theater stuff never stops.
the show MUST go on, i guess

stay warm, y'all...

tom

Back on the mainland!
7:40AM EST -

Central MD - 22" and still falling....the good news is there's no more draft at the bottom of the back door!!

You know the snow's deep when you have to shovel to let your dog out to do her business....

Stay safe ya'll.....lotss of breaks as you shovel, careful with the bending and twisting....remember you're gonna need that strong back to fire up the bike in a few short weeks!

Snowbound in MD,

Steve

We got about a foot of it last night. I spent all evening trying to keep the cars and the walks cleared out but it was a losing battle against the wind and the heavy snow. This morning you can't tell I did anything.
Oh well, I guess I'll finish my coffee and get back out there.
It's man and shovel against the elements!

Shel,

I think in that equation we always lose.

Gordon didn't check in this morning - hope things are going O.K.

Cleaned off the truck and the drive again this morning. So far no more trees down or loss of power.

Think I smell spring.......

OK. After yesterday's bantering session I'll throw in a couple of sagas just to make you all feel better. bigt
Up until 4 years ago I lived on a road close to a 1/2 mile long. 3/4's of it was unpaved. Had to do the snow removal myself. Did it with a Jeep CJ5.
In the early 90's our area went through a record snow fall season. Had no choice but to keep up with it. After the first few snowfalls it started to look like a luge run. Every time it snowed you would plow that crap and it
would just fall back in. Needless to say it was tough on that jeep. Towards the end of the road the hub bolts would start to cry enough and shear. Happened at least 3 times. Try changing those buggers out in all that snow with temps in the teens No picnic.

April 1995. A record amount. I'm 6'2" and that crap was up to my waist. You do the math. Close to 50 trees bent & broken across the road. My only salvation was my old Farmall tractor & a good Homelite chainsaw. The only way to get out was to throw the saw on the tractor, go backwards with those big wheels & make 2 ruts. It took 3 days. Just disappeared off the face of the earth.

I ain't whining, but thats what I meant by saying it builds your constitution. You got it Alan. Springs right around the corner. Good attitude, so lets all just stay healthy & make the best of it.

Ya we are getting our share in Southern California, mud slides trees blown down, more usless wind than an Al Gore speech. May we could get Uncle Al to shovle snow and write another book.

Depends on where you are in SoCal Scott...up here in the Big Bear area, last storm dumped over 5' of snow in 4 days. I've become real friendly with my neighbor who owns a backhoe. Fortunately, the current storm is still rain... so far.

well only a little bit more to do out front. I think I'll wait until tomorrow to start on the back. Nothing back there anyway but the shop.

Not bad here today. Light rain, no more snow (today at least). Actually rode a couple of sections (didn't clear any - blame it on the mud and snow). Creek is over it's banks, water is roaring along. All the paths through the woods have several inches of snow and soft mud below that.

At least I didn't dump it in the creek like I did last week. It was a good thing I was only 100 yds from the house (and dry shirt/jacket/pants). Lets see... how does that check list go...if you are working on the carb and it seems to be starving for gas.....don't take the bike somewhere where a stalled engine will get you in trouble (or something like that).
