Sorry, I know the pic and the question are kinda vague, but I just risked $25 on eBay to see if this thing would work on my 1960 T120 with a tach-drive timing cover. What bikes used "reverse" grey face Smiths gauges? Also, this was sold as a tachometer, but it looks like a speedo from this pic, doesn't it?

A bigger picture would help, the reverse tacho was used on the first unit 650's that used magnetic instruments. Definately 65 and possibly 64 as well. The feed was directly off the end of the exhaust camshaft on the drive side so it is a 2:1 ratio in the head and not 4:1 as the later ones, the later ones use the 90 degree gearbox which reversed the rotation of the cable and halved the speed.

It will also fit a 1963 Bonneville although they originally had a chronometric tachometer that ran counter clockwise. Where on earth did you get this for $25. I have a magnetic speedo on my 63 Bonneville because I have not been able to locate a chronometric one at a reasonable price and have been searching for one of these rev counters for a while. Is it a repo or original. Cheers Coopers

Mine cost me $19, misdescribed as a chopper tach on eBay, needs a full rebuild, will use A E Pople in UK who made the orginals for Smiths as the internals are not standard.

It was a $25 buy it now on eBay... seemed like an ok deal. I'm just hoping it will work with my timing side cover tach drive on my 1960 Bonneville. If it doesn't work, I would be happy to trade it for one that will fit.

Hi Lurkingclass
A trade would be great. I have a grey face tachometer from a 1967 Triumph that runs clockwise. I believe it works (I connected the speedo cable) but it is in need of restoration. I am in Australia and would be happy to send it to you. Regards Coopers

I was hoping to trade for an earlier tach- Chronometric or whatever is correct for a preunit Triumph- plus I have a few of those standard grey face speedos. I wasn't sure if they would work on it.
