Reno Richard,
I HATE YOU!!!!!! No wait, only kidding!!!!!! I have so much on my plate right now,66 442 frame up, 66 ss396 chevelle conv , 75 naked wing, and my 70 bonnie. The Bonnie came back to me after 30 years, it was left to me by my friend Sammy in Ny who i sold it to when i discharged from the navy. anyway looking at the georgous job you are doing has inspired me, it's now going on the front burner, maybe some of the memories of cruising around europe on my Bonnie helped too.
Thank you
Bob in Ca

Details, details...

The seat cover came from British Cycle Supply & the foam from Countryside Cycle. I sand blasted the original pan then rattle canned a few coats of primer + black.

Next: Rollout!

NOw you've gone and done it. You took that low, right front quarter angle shot. That one gets me every time. What a beautiful bike.

Very nice job Richard, the Aubergine & Gold was always one of my favorite combos.
I ride my 67 Bonnie down to Reno about every other year, so possibly I'll see ya on the road sometime.

Great pics! bigt

Reno Richard's 1967 Triumph T120R Restoration

Rollout!

Rollout and first ride was March 3, 2007. I did all the last minute prep stuff - oil in all 4 places, primed the oil pump till it was spitting back in the tank (& then some with the hole plugged), charged the battery, checked spark & kill switch operation and poured in some gas. About an hour later I finished fixing 2 small pin holes under the gas tank that I hadn't noticed till I started pouring the gas in. I think I counted 6 kicks & it sort of roared to life. Brake check on the driveway then a slow putt down the street. Well 3rd & 4th gear worked fine along with one cylinder! So... right exahust pipe off, gearbox outer case off, oil line off, engine plate off, inner gearbox case off, sync the shift cam & all back together. Swap the spark plug wires - still no left cylinder - it has spark & the plug is wet. Did I leave out one if the jets? Took off the main jet cap & I had forgotten to tighten the main jet...

The August 2008 Brit Bike.com calendar shot! laugh

I added some aftermarket mirrors & indicators. No drilling or mods for the indicators.

My favorite area to ride - Arnold, CA!

Congratulations Richard. The bike is gorgeous. You're a braver man than I for posting an expense ledger.

Nothing like the anticipation of that "first kick" and the first ride down the road.

I have an "expanding circle" routine developed for first rides on newly built bikes. Each successive ride involves a wider and wider route out of the neighborhood making sure the wife is home with the truck keys until I have 3 unassisted returns. Don't ask how/why it came to be....

Best regards

Larry

As you built this bike for yourself, your labor cost was excellent. Other than that, you have done VERY well on a retail basis, looking at the results. You have earned some significant value in doing the work yourself, based on recent auction results for equivalent bikes. All around excellent project and top-notch photo/data documentation.

Nicley done! Not that your in the business of 'flipping' bikes, but that kind of attention to detail and documentation adds value to a bike because it allows for a known history and ownership....

Way to go!

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks for posting that. I'll use it in defense of my spending on my bikes against my wife. "See, honey, I'm not as bad as some guys. They spend more money than me!" Gonna help alot!
Thanks,
Bill

home of grits and gnats...Sout...
Richard,
Can you post reports on the following:
1. Parts bought incorrectly and not returned or resold.
2. Duplicate parts bought because you forgot you'd already bought that a year before, and you kept to use on the "next one".
3. Duplicate supplies you bought (packs of sandpaper, loctite, 5/16 taps, etc... because, well see item 2 above...) and it was saturday and you just couldn't resist a trip to Kragen to start off the morning.

Also, did you use the zoopseal and how well does it work? Oh, and they have meds now for OCD. Incredible job!
Bill
