I'm putting a wheel together for my Triumph and I'm trying to figure out which brake plate is the right one. I have all the factory manuals (except '57...) and they just list the brake plate assembly as w1073- no mention of this w1057 or w1248. You can see the difference between the two, and I know I can make it work, but I'm just curious which one is correct for the pull through axle (pre '57?) and which is for the fixed axle? Any of you Triumph gurus care to clarify? If anyone is running one of these wheels, can you post a few close up pics? Thanks.

Here's the w1057-

and the w1248-

IMHO, the plate in photo number 1 is correct. I've never seen a plate like photo #2 with the large central relief.

Air scoops were only used on the "go fast model", the T110.

The second brake plate is for a 1957 model. It used a similar axle as the full width hubs and was meant to fit into the new fork legs for that year.

The first one is of course for an earlier model 1954-1956 and the one you need for the push through axle.

The part numbers in the book refer to a complete brake plate with brake shoes and other parts.

Richard:
These brakes were found on the T100, T110 from 1954 and in 1957, the TR6.
